@jobsworth - it’s the big bone at the back of the foot just under the ankle joint. When my son broke his ankle it was a chipped off piece of the Talus that constituted the break. The doc said that sometimes the bone fragment gets absorbed by the body over time and sometimes it moves into a position to cause pain swelling and discomfort later in life.

Mines is a bone spur right on the inside ankle bone on the R/H side. The tendon runs across it and it was rubbing on the spur. The spur was long not to big but big enough to cause me a lot of pain.

@jobsworth - Just glad that you got it taken care of. Constant foot pain is the worst. I am sure that it will be great to be done with that pain! The shop looks great! Happy for you that the door guys came back quickly and got you all closed in. So what’s left for contractor now (besides the roll up door)?

Just put the lights in and the outlets and Switches in and call for final.

Been a long road on this one. Dont know why it took so long originaly he told me mid Aug there were some legit delays i know but a guy around the corner built a huge looks like a 2500 sq ft house in less time it took to build this shop. But they did do a nice job.

Yea looking fwd to getting through this and being able to walk again take the dogs for a walk a even go to the mall.. Im not sure how much longer this is going to be. but Im looking fw to being through this

today the plumber came out and dug a shallow trench and is running a water line from the house to the chop. No photos really needed. Hes using 1" pvc piping. I will be able to add water to the shop if I want now and run a drip system for the raised garden and shade trees I want to plant and some bushes for colors. Ill be using mainly gravel for ground cover

Beautiful looking shop Jobby...It'll be well worth the wait once you move in and fire up the equipment.

Thanks Cheese Im looking fwd to getting out of this boot and move into the shop.

Also for the help and advice on the lighting.

I already bought the lighting for the shop.

Not the office area but the shop for area.

These are what I got. I got 4 of them. The boxes are hung in the ceiling evenly in a square already.

Just got to hook them and the outdoor carriage lights that match the house.

I still gonna run more outlets in the shop maybe 4 more on the walls and 2 fixtures for fans in the ceiling and one for my air filter.

I didnt forget the the 3 220v boxes.

2ea 220v for the shop and one for the split system that Im going to add down the road.

Called for grading inspection today

I also forgot to get s light for the bump out. What Im going to use for a office. So I ordered one and it should be arriving today.

Things are moving along

Oh and my ankles feeling better, finished the last of the pain meds Dr wanted me to take 2 a day for 12 days. So Im done with them.

Yesterday I was able to walk out and have a look at the shop.

Gonna be nice.

Grading passed, So next is the electricians come do their thing hooking up lights outlets etc then call for final. So the electrician is coming next week possibly Monday. Then call for inspection. Once it passes final, hook up te water line from house to shop and move in not necessarily in that order.

Oh the roll up door is 3 weeks out now.

Has no bearing on getting the cert of occupancy.

Next on to setting up the shop.

Electrician came yesterday hooked everything up. The lights i picked sure lit te shop up last night, came home from the dog park last night and man the inside of the shop was lit up

Boot gone, foots working, shops permitted started moving in today got my 3 MFTs ( not counting my Kapex MFT) and all my Systainers moved in ready to rock and roll .

Hi guys,

Rather then starting over and create a new thread Ill keep this one going, so everyone will be able to start from the very begining with my move here, the shop build process and now setting up a new shop.

Shops permitted, started moving in today got my Systainers and 3 MFTs etc moved in still lots more to do. Shop has a lot more room then a I ever had before. Ill take some photos tomorrow when I get the rest of the stuff moved over. Good thing my son is coming home he can help me with the heavy stuff like my roll aways and my jointer. I can pretty much handle every thing else.

Bought some ply gonna start making cabinets need to get stuff off the floor and outta boxes.

This first set is gonna be setting up my miter saw station. One cabinet will have a drawer bank, the others will have maybe one drawer then storage. I plan on storing my tools in Systainers set on on top of the cabinets, as Im not going to have a fence for my miter saw station only stops.

Everthing is based on the saw base anyway.

Im going to make some shelving and maybe get something to hang my wood peckers stuff on the wall.

Looks like my plans are working out.

I bought the Festool cutting table that folds up and fits under a MFT.

So I can roll it to the door of the shop back my truck up slide the ply directly from the truck to the cutting table then since its the same height as my MFT I can slide the ply once ripped to size to the MFT for cross cutting.

We'll see how it goes today

I was gonna say the same, but maybe he has a plan..

I’m temporary again going to move my “shop” to a much nicer room, albeit 1/4 of what jobsworth have - but I’ll have som other benches! It’s fabulous!

Yea I have a plan Im building things mainly lower cabinets to get things put away and organized. Not installing them but building them and laying the shop out. Then Im going to add some additional outlets where needed.
Ill be about to move everything away from the walls and Then get the shop insulted, move everything back and install.

Clever, bench space is vital... even at temporary placement.
You’ll have the opportunity to try out different configurations where you can move about too, settle on a solution with a work flow that works for you and your equipment. Outlets follow.

How are you doing the ceiling? Understand you have severe heat to deal with. Are you going to isolate the loft from the work space with ceiling on the cross beams, so the attic area can be ventilated?

consider putting at least the the finished ceiling in before you get too far along loading in. I put up the ceiling and the walls in my shop with stuff inside and it is NOT something that I would EVER do again. Just a royal pain.

Yea it does get hot here.
But this summer we set a record , over 50 days straight above 110 degrees.

It was brutal but still managed to work for a few hours a day till the heat got to me. So Im going to discuss the best options with the contractor. Id like to have him spray foam the ceiling. But it might be cot prohibitive and not give me what I want.

Funds are tight for me right now as this build wasn't exactly inexpensive.

If I can swing it later on in the year maybe May Ill do it then.

When the time comes to insulate Ill make the decision which is the best way.

Right now though I know its a real PITA to insulate with stuff in the shop, Im going to press fwd fingure out the lay out run some more electrical outlets and a couple of 220v outlets once I figure where Ill need them.

Because the electrical also has to be done before I can insulate as well.

So heres a photo (not very good one) of how I use my STM. I just backed the truck up tail gate down, slide a sheet of ply off onto the STM ripped to width and repeat. Next with the ripped ply (3 sheets) still on the STM I rolled it over to my MFTs where I have the sysvacs and will pick up the ply set it on the vacs using the conturo to edge band trim and set aside for cross cutting to length. Heres the truck to STM photo, the STM to vac sys along with ege banding will be tomorrow

Hi Ron @jobsworth

Going back to what someone above said about installing your insulation etc before your machinery was brought in...

We moved house just over a year ago and I had to convert a double garage into a new workshop. It had to be sound proofed and dry lined. I had to do the first fix (cabling and new consumer unit) before the contractors came to do that work. So, I did an accurate drawing of the workshop and had drawings of all of my machines and cabinets which I could move around until I was happy with the layout. From that I did my wiring plan and knew exactly where my sockets should go. I also was able to place the LED strip lights in the optimum places as well.

Maybe theres one thing I should have mentioned. I have a complete Festool workshop. There is littarlly nothing I cant easily move about., 3 MFTs for work benches, MFT CMS for a router table, CMS GE w a TS 75 module for a table saw. Only DC I have other than my 2 FT CTs is a small wall mountable DC to use with my Maktia planer and Jet jointer (thats on a wheeled base.)

I stil have some electric to run maybe 4 or 5 additional outlets and a couple 220V outlets. Here is Az we are the opposite of the rest of the country and UK. Our winters are mild and warn, today its in the low 70s.It will be nice until prolly Mid June when it starts heating up.

Im going to try to get the insulation in before June. But if not I survived working in my uninsultated garage this past summer and we set records for heat. We had 50 days above 110 degrees.
Hopefully Ill get it done before then.

Ill have a look at your lay out. What size is your shop, so Ill have somethng to compare mine to.

Started building cabinets, got 3 of them cut to width and length. Tomorrow, Ill be using the LR 32 for the system holes and the contour for edge banding, then the TID 18 to screw and assemble the cabinets.

I got one outlet to add before install of these cabinets.

Using the LR 32 I drilled the system holes and used my conturo for edge banding tomorrow Ill be using the MFK700 for trimming and assembling the cabinets. Before I do a temp install of the cabinets, i have to run some cable and add another outlet maybe 2.

If you need help with a plan to ridiculously overdo your electrical layout just let me know. I have taken electrical excesses to new heights in my shop.
