I spend a good amount of time in my shop, and I try to work in a sitting position as often as I can such as drawing, laying out work, chopping dovetails or mortises. etc. I have one of these bar stools which can be folded away: https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/franklin-bar-stool-with-backrest-foldable-white-white-70404875/

What seat do you use when you work sitting?

I don't have a taller stool for working at my bench but I do use a rolling stool quite a bit throughout the shop.

The ability to raise and lower the seat over a wide range makes it very useful. I like that it folds flat to get out of the way, too.

I like the look of this seat but how do you buy it? Looks like the site is just info but not how/where to buy one.

I have three of the Dewalt stools. I didn’t need three but it stops the kids arguing!

I'm pretty sure I bought it from Wayfair. Looks like they've changed brands, but the design is identical.

I have a drum throne (stool) that I use. I like that it is comfortable, light, stable, swivels and can raise-lower. I would not want one with wheels because when I am stationary sitting, I want the stool to not be rolling. Another reason I do not value wheels is because when I move it to the other part of the shop, I just take it there. Very light and no wheels contributes add weight. If I had wheels, I could roll it, but then I am bending over. Personal preference.

One other thing that I think makes you very comfortable when working in the shop is a workbench that is height adjustable. Many options for that including the Barth benches and motorcycle lifts mounted to nice bench tops. My height adjustable workbench is my favorite "tool" in my shop.

Here’s mine.

It’s a mid century modern Herman Miller fiberglass office chair. I should probably restore it, sell it and buy something.

. But I like it.

I rescued it from a 30 yard roll off dumpster about 25 years ago.

so far I'm liking this one...much more comfy than my old wooden stool, and it rolls quite well and has a couple of wheel locks.

Not so comfy as yours..

But it’s very light and easy to move and doesn’t take up much space.
It is an IKEA creation, but it has been great and holds up well.

I have an old bar stool for when my back plays up, and I’m using the higher side bench, and a small adjustable stool with wheels, like some shown here, for the lower stuff.

I agree completely on wheels. I don't want them on my stool, I don't want them on my bench, I'm not even fond of them on equipment. "Retractable" wheels never seem to retract and lockable wheels never seem to lock.

I agree too, but one could make a custom dolly for those occasions where wheels would be useful - that is if the stool could be regulated in height.

I built my stool using plans from Woodsmith I believe. I did a quick search but could not find a reference to it. I thought maybe it was a ShopNotes project but did not find it there either.....

It was a fun project and I get a lot of use out of the stool.

I ordered the Ikea Franklin stool, but find it quite uncomfortable. I’m returning it, and have just ordered the Alera IL adjustable height stool as recommended earlier in this thread; it was just $67 with free shipping from Amazon.
My back likes a stool much better than standing.

The Alera stool just arrived. It's quite comfortable, and the right height, I think for sitting while working at the MFT.
The HD mobile workbench is a little too tall for this stool at max height. Maybe I'll hang on to the Ikea Franklin a little while longer, see if I like using that at the taller workbench.
