Hi!

With all the shop tour videos and pictures floating around I found it quite surprising we don't have a toolbox(es) thread.

Please share you toolboxes, tool cabinets, tool walls ... whatever you use to store your tools.

I'll start - with my still evolving Snap-On KRA 4107 FPC toolbox. Pictures are from Mai - not 100% accurate anymore but they give an impression. If a tray seems empty, it is because I keep the contents either with a tool in a Systainer/L-Boxx or in a SYS-TB because I'm still building stuff. But the plan is at one point to have it all together. Maybe except for the 3/8" impact sockets, they have a great place in my impacts Systainer...     

So please, please share!

You would laugh at me if I posted pictures of the draws of my tool boxes. Messy and overfilled, but I know where everything is. Someday I will buy a couple more KRL's and better organize. Many of my automotive tools are in bins or worse cardboard boxes. Moved my OTC ball joint press today and had to re-tape the bottom of the box. Sheesh, I am so not cool.

For now I can offer this awesome Snap-on bucket tool holder (Notice the nice handle padding) that fills up and empties routinely. It is always kinda dirty, but my hand tool bag is worse having been to a few too many junk yards and brought the grease back on it. Ewww... I have nothing shiny and new, as all my stuff is old, worn, and ugly.

Thanks for sharing that awesome bucket, sadly stuff like that hardly makes overseas. As far as I know that never was a catalog item, but a promotion item, am I right?

Believe me, I'm never going to laugh about well used tools or well filled toolboxes. You could as well laugh about me for being so pedantic with cleaning tools thoroughly after each use, keeping the trays and organizing everything... 

So please, share a picture or two when you feel like it at some point

LOL, @Paul G  Now, if your wife would happen to be an immigration lawyer, and you'd be ok with it - we could make a deal that would make everyone happy: You're not going to be toast, your wife will be enchanted about how organized your toolbox(es) is/are, I can make NYC my new place of permanent residence after a short vacation in NorCal... Sounds good?

Now that's not too bad, you can still see the bottom of the drawer in some spots of your catch all drawer     

A toolbox is a toolbox, and if you're happy with it and it fits your needs thats all that matters. Spending and calculating efficiently is a good thing, no questions there.

Ah .. this is something that I need to address - one day! I could easily fill 2 or 3 roller cabs with the stuff I've got, let alone the stuff I want. Problem is .. you need somewhere to roll them to, which is what I'm horribly lacking where I am today.

I just made this tool cart and it doubles as my work bench outfeed/support. i did the top below sea level lol cause i wanted to swipe and dump small bench top items over incase i need a flat surface to work on. i had scrap carbon fiber and some metal tubing left over from a project so i made this with about 30 bucks worth of extras.



then i got bored and pimped out my new sys combi

I gave this away to one of the members on here. One ugly cart, but with some paint... It still functions well enough.



This is what it takes to allow two people to move a mid sized KRL toolbox. The larger tool boxes require a roll back tow truck or kneeling trailer. I put 1/4" plate on top and use this tool box as my work bench. Have rebuilt transmissions and transfer cases on top, and since all my fragile electronics etc are in another box, I have no problem beating bearing races etc on the top of it with a 32oz hammer.



These days this is my most worn toolbox.

One of my tools box sets. Lower is from '73, the tops were replacements in the early '80's.

Have to get these back on a wall, pullers and automotive AC service set.

Have a socket/wrench/mechanics type setup for field travel.

Yeah, yeah, and at that tool density rate I would only need 14 or so of the 54" version tool boxes

After about an hour of use hearing her talk I would also be unplugging it 

Snap-on has a lot of industrial customers like the military, plus regular tool dealers that cover airports, and other scenarios where that setup is excellent for compliance. I could see it working in a quick lube type setting so tools don't walk off or get left under hood, but it may cost prohibitive.

Glad to see others using SnapOn boxes for woodworking stuff. I much prefer using metal toolboxes- SnapOn, Gladiator and HarborFreight than wall mounted shelves- less clutter, less stuff for dust to attach itself to.

My girlfriend made the tool roll for me. Still in the process of filling it up with good chisels - a Nice roll deserves Nice chisels right?

And yeah, the japanese saws for perfectly in the drawer when taken apart...

I made a plywood insert for a SYS-4 so I can haul my install drills and charger with my minis full of ways to solve other people's problems.  I have the SYS-1 with organizers on top for basic fasteners, hole saws, and drill bits.  If I have to go on site, I just take the whole box in one hand and my toolbelt in the other.

I think it depends on the job that you perform.  I would requires airplane mechanics to use this system.  I wish doctors in ER using this type of system so they did not forget surgery knife in patient bodies. LOL.

In the hospital I worked in, every surgical tool and rag had a barcode on it that was scanned with a handheld Symbol unit when the item entered the operating theatre and scanned again when it was put in the bin for sterile processing.  Things that were intended to be left inside a patient were also scanned.  There were PC workstations in each OT where the surgical tech responsible for keeping track of inventory could double-check stuff, and even send the info to a monitor on a boom arm next to the cutting area.  They were big on lean manufacturing processes to cut costs and errors in surgery, but the enthusiasm for efficiency never made it to the managers of the on-site cabinet and countertop shop.

You know, it's funny, my auto related tools are in a large KRL toolbox, mostly organized neatly as Oliver's is.  And everything gets wiped down before its stowed.  The deeper drawers invite some chaos.  For years I had inadequate storage and things were all over the place and now everything for working on the cars fits in the box with room to spare.

But the woodworking tools...I only have a small tool box in the basement and everything else is scattered everywhere...complete chaos!  Like a hoarders episode.  Need to build some tool organization down there!  There is no horizontal surface that doesn't have stuff on it.

Thanks for posting Oliver, I didn't know Snap-on offered this service.    It's pretty user friendly and transparent except for that nagging voice in the background. Strictly a vision system application.

Way better than scanning with a Symbol scanner all the time, that'd certainly become a PITA.

This is the first generation.  I am working on dual stack that can fit both Systainer and Harbor Freight storage boxes in the same rack without each horizontal t-slot for each rail.

Yes, based on this version, I just adjust the T-Slot side rail up or down.  So I don't have to pre-drill holes as plywood.  The second version does not use horizontal side rails.  It drives the cost down a lot.

There are 2 methods that I can think of.
1. Buy t-slot from 80/20 with the length you need.  So it is pre-cut and square with pre-tab and counter bore as option.  Just kidding but it work if you don't do a lot of cutting, it might be cheaper.
2. Buy aluminum blade and put it in TS 55 REQ.  Then cut to specific length on MFT/3.

I don't want to steal this thread.  I will create a new post for 80/20 Sysport after I take an exam this week.  I have 2 versions of 80/20 Sysports.  One is what you saw here.  Another one is double stack.  I can put either Systainers or Harbor Freight storage boxes in the same rack.  I also made 80/20 gig to drill counter bores and holes for end fasteners on a drill press.

Main one is the van, then there's a large toolsafe in it.
this is pretty much the van contents...


Everything in this stack in the centre of the photo fits into the toolsafe...


and this, although its my old van that I no longer have (sames true for the dog sadly) it shows the toolsafe.


That toolsafe holds a fairly serious amount of kit, its not always easy to get at but its always pretty secure, which matters a lot to me.
