The demonstration videos with towers of Festool systainers in the background both amused and worried me. Then the SYS-AZ hit the streets. Am I on the slippery slope to becoming equally consumed? You be the judge (photos below).

The unit is made up of seven separate components which can be bolted together. Each components is on locking castor wheels. Long pieces of wood can be stored through the bottom half of the rear units, ‘cept for the rail cupboard in the far corner. I may go up at a later stage with more storage. It is mostly made out of 18mm Russian Birch plywood, with MDF bench tops. Bench height is 900mm, with 55mm clear under the top for dogs and clamps. The Kapex is a bit too high where it is. I typically pull the single-width unit at the front left out as a satellite bench to the MFT 3.

Question.... I'm interested in your floor. Can't figure out what you've done there. Tile? Concrete? Nice looking and I'd really like to know what that is. Looks easy to sweep/clean as well.

Thanks for the welcome, and thanks for the questions.

The cabinets were sized to fit a) two packs of extractor bags b) three boxes of 100x150 abrasives and c) user manuals - both A4 and is it A5? Odd arrangement is just to add a bit of fun.

Yes, that is MFT profile. I certainly did not pay full price though!

The floor is natural bluestone titles. The street outside still has bluestone kerb and guttering. I thought it would be fun to take this into the garage. I won't use this again as any spills stain.

It was a conscious decision to only just accommodate the systainers that I already had. This will stop me buying any more. Right?

I originally planned to get the CT into the unit, but it would have cut into the long wood storage going through the back. If I extend along another wall…

I have included a couple of additional photos. One shows inside the rail and MFS cupboard. You can see two of the bolts near the top holding the system together. A couple of the front units have been rolled away. You can also just see my Fest-a-rest* tool rest sitting on a Systainer on the extractor.

The second photo shows my new Kapex blade storage. No matter how long you spend re-arranging your systainers, you always end up with a couple of vacant holes at the top. A set of 18mm high drawer runners hold a piece of 18mm ply. The runners have perfectly spaced holes so I can use Euro screws into the SYS-AZ’s holes. Anybody thinks there is a problem storing blades like this?

Great looking units! You inspired me to set up a template in Polyboard to create some similar units. For anyone that uses Polyboard for cabinet design, I've setup a manufacturing method and sub-methods for 18mm birch ply, with 6x40 Domino fixings, 18mm MR MDF tops, with single panel pattern for MFT holes, and drilling pattern for SYS-AZ drawers. Using that manufacturing setup I created a single cabinet, double cabinet, Kapex unit, and XCarve 1000mm cabinet, all with 900mm worktop height and 100mm plinth height so you can use 100mm locking castors and make them into carts.

Once I've measured up my CMS unit I'll design a cart for that (to use with its legs folded away) and add SYS-AZ / CMS insert storage below it.

I really like your rail and material storage so I'll create some rear cabinets to mimic those too.

I'm happy to share the cabinet files if anyone's interested.

For the double unit, I did double up on the middle partition so that the SYS-AZ’s euro screws do not clash and so that the overall width is double a single unit. Likewise my unit with the middle cupboard is exactly 2.5 x a standard unit with (18+427+18).

I have indeed acquired further systainers since the last photos (no idea how this happened

) so I am in the process of proceeding around to the adjacent wall with more units.

Thanks. I realised that the euro connector holes would end up being through holes of insufficent depth, so I was going to make it a 25mm panel to minimise the problem, but doubling up would be much better (and all cabinet widths would then be multiples of 463mm as you say). I made the large storage unit design to be SYS-AZ compatible as well ... just in case ;-)

Happy days expanding the collection!

I'll take some photos once I've made a few cabinets.

Honestly hon, I don't know where all these extra systainers come from!

I have had to extend around to the other wall. Unfortunately it is window so I am blocking some light. The base of the clamp rack has a cupboard at the front for boxes of grit. A 'standard' unit is in front. The latest addition is a 1-systainer-lower back-to-back unit which currently lives under the MFT. The top is a nice size and height for the Kapex. I now have room for about four or five more systainers...

The MFT moves out to the middle of the garage on weekends.

I was struggling to study for a physics exam. I bought myself a new HP programmable calculator (big investment for way back then) and coded up every formula I was supposed to be studying. I blitzed the exam. (And no, I did not use the calculator in the exam.)

I have to repaint all of the exterior door and window frames of my two-story house. If the new LS 130 and CTL SYS help me blitz the painting job, then yeah, they will be worth it!

With the 1st story windows the alternative was just have the old paint dust going everywhere. I have done one door frame and the CTL SYS worked fine. The capacity is small. In the past I have put the CT26 in the back of the car for small 'on-site' jobs, this will be a little easier. I'll post my thoughts after using it more.

Very nice and clean build. I envy the room you have there. I have a small shop that I have been building out. As I work in the space for a while I get a better feel for how the layout needs to be set up or changed. I'm no more than a few steps from any tool I need but still have a way to go. Here's a picture of the first couple of projects. New combination outfeed table/ assembly and second work bench coming next.
