Very kind words. I haven't had a lot of use with the cart yet but I'm thrilled with how it has turned out. What do you mean about winging the top?

Here are the differences from Neil's design:

Vac Sys integration (different drawer, holes cut for hose routing)
No 20mm holes in top
I used plywood for the entirety of the frame for the MDF top. Neil used plywood for the interior frame but the outer perimeter that receives the T track he used maple hardwood. I don't have the tools to mill lumber for that purpose so I went with what I had. The top frame has a little flex in the middle if you lean on it but I don't think it will be an issue. I did reinforce the middle underneath the top with a cross member using pocket screws.

The dimensions overall are pretty much the same as well I may have changed this or that as I went. I did try to stick to the overall height of his since it's designed to clear the MFT/3 table ~900mm.

I have the ability to bore the 20mm holes in the MDF I just chose not to. I figure I could use a bench surface without holes in it in my shop.

The shop is still growing. Haven't been in the house a year even.




Very nice.  What I meant by winging it - I thought you deviated from the original plans. Looks like you didn't I am actually going to pick up the lumber for this soon and mimick exactly what you did.  Going to put all these dimensions into a cut list and do it.  I will post pics when I am done thank you again @DynaGlide you did a beautiful job. By the way, what kind of hooks are you using on your wall for your festool tracks?

I did make the top flush at the front and back. Neil did not.

The hooks are rubber coated from home Depot. They have a large screw on the other end. It's an okay arrangement for now.

I just got back from Gregory Paolini class and while in Asheville looking around look what I found



Calavera stopped producing these a while back. I wanted one for the cart and was glad to have found it.

Matt, that is a very nicely executed project. Has to be motivation for others to undertake something like that. Fellows, like NeilC, ever so willing to share information makes it all the more encouraging.  Where else but on the FOG?

Matt - Great idea on the Calavera holder.  I have one but never thought about placing on the side of the bench for FT clamps!

Thanks @Cheese . I've been using the cart more and having everything at hand ready to go really ups the usefulness of it all. No more fumbling around looking for stuff (which keeps you from using it to begin with). It's always plugged in and I can wheel it around if I need to for something bigger or longer. Thinking I might pickup a second head clamp for cabinet sides. I'll try to take some updated pictures of how it is now - TSO TPG complete 50" system stows in the middle along with the guide rail squares. Edge banding supplies go in one of the drawers.

@neilc  Unfortunately my projects came to a halt for the foreseeable future with the children at home. I have some nifty LR-32 modifications up my sleeve that work really well on the Vac Sys cart setup. They're done but I won't have time to show them off for a while.  [tongue]

I've been enjoying this cart. It's a central part of my workflow. I added the 2nd head recently. I don't think I appreciated how the 2nd head works. You could use them independently off one foot valve if it's just you working on smaller pieces.

I have plans to make the heads quick detach in the future but I'm glad I can stuff all those hoses in the cart so they're out of sight.

Very nicely done @DynaGlide .  I did threaded inserts on a drill press for my systainer cart but they didn't come out great.  Also had issues getting them installed.  Some were a bit crooked and some didn't go in all the way. I like the router idea.  will use it next time.  What bit did you use for these? what size are the inserts?

I think I got them from McMaster-Carr as item 95596A200. I believe the bolts I used were item 91239A416 also from McMaster-Carr.

I used this router bit to create the ~11mm holes for them: Whiteside Router Bits RU4950

Trickiest part is securing the router somehow. I'm contemplating a vacuum pod attachment for an auxiliary router base.

Thank you.  Those are the same inserts I used. 
I probably should have used epoxy or wax to lubricate the threaded inserts during installation. 
Interesting idea on vacuum pod attachment.  I would have just used 3/4 piece of scrap on the end.
