Truck tool box that fits systainers?
« on: June 23, 2016, 08:27 PM »
After a series of unfortunate circumstances I have to get rid of my transit 250 high roof diesel for an F150  [eek] my hands are tied and have to get rid of it. I do AV work and this is seriously the furthest thing from ideal. My township does allow a small utility trailer (but not a workvan)  [mad] )

I'm finalizing the deal tomorrow on a 1.5 door 6.5 ft bed f150 with 3.5l Eco Boost. I'll do a tonnea cover but need a tool box. I need to keep the interior open so I can haul TVs and equipment without the worry of rain. Ive got to scale down what I can have on the truck and have in my systainers to fit them in a tool box, but since I'll do a smal trailer I'll be fine. I have a CT-Midi and various sys sizes. I can scale back what I keep on the truck but still need 4-5 systainers and my vacuum. This might be a good excuse to get the new CT-Sysvac!!

Probably not going todo a truck cap if I can make this work...ill just tow the trailer for full installation days!

Tia!

Hi!

Could this work? https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/dzz-8560wb/overview/make/ford/model/f-150

60 inch/ 152 cm wide, 18 inch/ 45 cm high, 24 inch/ 60 cm deep.

Largest Systainer (T-Loc 5) = 39,6 x 29,6 x 42,7 cm

CT Midi = 43,0 x 33,0 x 47,0 cm

It won't be pretty but might fit.  But if you want some sort of protection beneath the Systainers/Vac it's going to be a very close call...

Kind regards,
Oliver

<y heart goes out to anyone who has to go from a Transit back to an F150. Take a peek at my avatar of the F-150 with slide out arrangement. If you want to see more and larger pictures of that set-up let me know and I'll send you a link.

I'm sorry to hear about your problems.

There is a company called "knaak" that makes chest boxes.
2'x4'x2' should fit about 6-8 Systainers .

The box I have is that size ,and I have :
1- sys 5
4- sys 2
2- sys 1 in mine, depending how you stack them. Some on edge ,some flat ect.
I will try to paste a link.
Charlie
PS . I will take a pick of the inside of mine when I can.

I had the same setup as well,  but in the Super Duty,  I used the back area of the cab and a extra wide and deep single lid box I got at Farm and Fleet years ago.  I know that there are many other making this type of box. I still use this box, but it must be raised to fit the short bed truck, mine sit on top of my Trac Rack rail ( which I feel is a must have if you have a work truck,  l carry everything from framing lumber to my 3 M TS rail on mine, great product. ), but a couple of pieces of 2 x will raise the box enough to clear the wheelwell. I don't carry my Systainers in my bed box, because I use the Dewalt Tough Box system for my heavy duty tools ( sawall and such) and my box fits them fine, but it's a bit of a pain in the ass at times to get them in and out.  I live in the panhandle/ Gulf of Mexico area so I need waterproof boxes and the tools I keep in the Systainers can't handle the water.  Also I take my more expensive tools in every night.  Truck got broken into in my nice old Gulf Coast neighborhood,  so they get put away every night.

Knaack Jobmaster.  It's the best box. Pricey but nice. I would get a small enclosed trailer 4x6 or 4x8. I have a 2004 f-150 with 250k miles. It's a really lousy vehicle to work out of. But great if you want to fill the bed with boulders or gravel. My 2016 Prius has more room interior than the truck. Get. A trailer and put the tool box inside the trailer. You can go 5 or 6 ft tall and then be able to park it in your garage. If you wanted to store the AV equipment overnight. I wouldn't haul the equipment around in an open bed and a tonneau cover is not tall enough for a 60" or 70" LED screen.

I had a Klein box before same dimension but the knaack is that much nicer. They make two options cheaper box and a more expensive. The better box has the lid support in the front so you can utilize more of the space and stack the systainers completely up to the top.

I bought one of those Knaack Job boxes used, and have never used it. How waterproof is it? Like, could I carry my tools in the bed of my truck without worrying about them getting soaked?

Hey Brendan
Reading this makes me sad, I live in a townhouse community which doesn't allow pickups or vans let alone my rig. I was lucky to find a local business within walking distance that let me park there in exchange for a few carpentry favors. I would try to find a similar arrangement or drive your jeep to where the truck is parked. Unless you need 4x4 capacity a pickup is a bad choice for a work vehicle. Especially for the kind of work you do, a van is a much better option. I had pickups for years and the access and storage options are costly and not very good.
Cheers
Curt
