MFT workbench build

I'm wanting to build a workbench with an mft top and two vises.  All the parts will be cut on the cnc, but i don't have any other mfts, and i'm curios to how much clearance i need for dogs, clamps ect.  Does anyone have anything similar they can share to give ideas, etc?  I plan to store systainers on both sides with storage on the ends.  I want to have a vise on the side and one on the end.

160 from the underside of the top would leave more than enough should you want to leave clamps dangling and not hit anything. Here's a photo of a clamp fed through an 18mm thick top.

You may want to allow yourself room to come up from below with a clamp too.

I built this a few years ago. At the time I just guessed at the height. And I've been happy with it. About 5-3/4" from the bottom of the top to the shelf.

Hi Chris,

I don't have any drawings as I just made it from some rough sketches. But the main top is 32 x 48 x 36 high on 3" locking casters. It has 12 rows of 8 dog holes. It also has some wings on either end which fold up to give me about 87 inches in length. If you need more info, just holler. Good Luck.

Are the wings done with typical drop-leaf table hardware?  Or something more robust?

Hi RustE,

I used KV 206 brackets for the wings. Like these:

You should check out the build by Peter Parfitt on The New Brit Workshop on YouTube. At one point he offered plans. Keep in mind he’s a Brit so you get a wonderful accent and metric measurements. I like the removable slide-in trays under the top and accessible from either side.  It makes it easy to retrieve items that fall thru the dog holes as well as cleaning sawdust from underneath the top.
