Abrasive storage solution for filing cabinet

I finally found a good solution for storing abrasives and other sanding accessories that maximized the efficient use of space, and gave me another reason to hang on to my metal filing cabinets.

The trick was to figure out which configuration of dividers and heights would be best for the space in the cabinet.  Used mortises and dominoes as pegs/dowels for the RO90 abrasive tray to sit on top of the larger tray for 150 and 80x133 abrasives.

Now I get to throw out all of those space-hogging abrasive boxes.

Does anyone besides me worry about cross contamination of the grits? I have several of the Festool Systainers for paper storage but I've always worried that the grit from 80 will get onto the 220 paper, or do I just not have enough other things to worry about in life.

While I don't worry about cross-contamination of grits, I don't like to put cutting surfaces together.  Remember that special way to fold a sheet of sandpaper so that the rough side always faces a paper side?

This reminds me about a customer who was buying abrasives for his crew.  I asked him if he had fine enough grits, and he replied that if his guys need finer grits, they usually just rub two together.  I think he was serious, but I'm not entirely sure.

Are you just a weekend type piddler, or do you ever take the tool out to do some work. The Systainer boxes are made just for this purpose. Tough to drag around a file cabinet  to the job.

I do occasionally work on site for art installations, but the majority of my work is from home.  When I need to go mobile, there's more than enough space in the sander systainers themselves for the abrasives I need.  I may consider getting the abrasive systainer when I switch around the architecture of my shop to be Festool specific, but until then, I just wanted a cheap and efficient means of storage.
