Thanks @Cheese,
Oddly enough probably today the walk-around camera I would go for if I was going on a casual trip would be the new Sony RX100 mk IV (http://www.kenrockwell.com/sony/rx100-mk-iv.htm), but I cringe at its price point for a point-and-shoot nevertheless.
I'm also following the Sony a7rII with a hawk eye as a possible replacement to my aging 5D mark II, but I'm not totally convinced on how well the adapted Canon lenses would work on this one as I have way too much money stuck in L-lenses to just dump them. Also the A7 body + Canon lenses will still not make a portable camera =(
Maybe mounted with an Canon EF40 f/2.8 STM it would be smallish, but not with a 24-70 f/2.8... ;-P
Currently noticing that I'm taking my wife's Nikon 1 AW out more often than my Canon even though the Nikon with its dive proof kit lens and weather sealing isn't exactly small either. Just being lazy I guess.
My last holiday I carried my 7D and 5DIII. I actually liked that because I had my 70-200 on the 7D and 24-70 on the 5D. Great combo for me.
