Powermatic 1500 Bandsaw
« on: March 03, 2020, 11:32 AM »
I have a Delta 18” bandsaw for which I can’t get parts. Need guide bearings.

I’ve been looking at the new Powermatic 15” bandsaw. The specs and YouTube videos make the saw look very attractive.

Any experience?

Have you measured the inside & outside diameter of the bearings?
Lots of places sell bearings.

The Delta website doesn't even offer part manuals for any older product, really disappointing to see how far they've fallen.  [sad]

Ran across this as I was looking for parts for my 28-303.

Way back in the last century, I loaned my 10" bandsaw to a good friend. before he even used the saw, he completely stripped it down and rebuilt it. He even built a stand and used it for maybe 10years. When he had it completely torn apart, he made a list of parts he would need and called Delta. They checked the trial number and discovered it was 43 years old. (I had inherited from my father). The person he spoke with told hi, they had parts dating over 50 years  and could completely rebuild any machine they had sold within the last 50 years. When my friendpassed way, his son delivered my saw in very much better condition than when i loaned it out.

I agree, it is sad to see Delta has regressed so far.

That's probably not the case any longer Tinker...unfortunately.

I pulled up a random list of 103 parts, 51 of those parts were listed as "no longer available" or "out of stock" which is probably just one small step away from being "no longer available".  [crying]

All of the Delta spare parts were sold out many years ago. A man in a town about 20 miles north of me purchased them for pennies on the dollar. The purchase included lots of castings that ended up in the local scrap yard.

He is a seller on Ebay. The parts are stored on the upper floor of an old factory building. I have been there. He does not know what all he has.

Sorry, was busy at work today searching for parts for valves and other equipment and didn't have time to look these up.

Just to verify you need a total of eight bearings for a full changeout of upper and lower bears correct?

That's what I see looking at the exploded part diagram, 5 upper and 3 lower, all the same part number 912535.

You should see a bearing number on the side of the bearing. Post a clear photo of that or give us all the markings on the side of the bearing and should be able to find it by that.

You can just measure the diameter, width, and shaft diameter and should be able to find a replacement bearing. I am sure they are still made, just not offered by Delta or other parts sources under the old Delta part number.

Can't you reorder the bearings you bought in 2013, or didn't they work?

Will these work? They are only ABEC 3, 5 would be better (tighter tolerance, better quality), 7s would be pretty more expensive but better quality over the 5s.

What is ABEC ?

I deeply appreciate all the help.

I’ll pull off one of the bearings to look for a part number and I will mic it.

I have that saw. Got it about 6 months ago.  Runs like champ!  Very quiet and zero vibration.  The fence is superb and rock solid.  I think it has 14.5" resaw capacity which is more than enough for me.  It's also very robust and heavy.  I like having the foot brake.  No regrets at all.

My 18" Delta bandsaw has always been noisy and has more vibration than my small Powermatic bandsaw.

When I first got the 18", the lower wheel was wobbly at speed. The saw shook like a wet dog. The vendor did replace the wheel after a few pointed phone calls.

The bearings read NBK and 6200Z.

The OD is 30mm.

So they are the bearing I gave a link to earlier should work.  Your bearing is 10 x 30 x 9 (6200) double metal shield (2Z), probably ABEC 3, which may show on the other side of the bearing. NBK is the abbreviation for the manufacturer IIRC.

Some English in this video and the narrator is hard to understand but the graphic tells you most of what you need to decode bearing numbers. Most every manufacturer has a catalog of table which will have their part numbers listed. Call any of them and ask for a 6200-2Z, they should anywhere from a dollar up depending on the ABEC rating, but don't go for anything but I would go for a 3 for this application.

You can also research on McMaster-Carr. Their prices are higher but probably domestic bearings, you'd have to ask them.
