Joint the Felder family
« on: April 27, 2020, 09:08 PM »
My new baby will be delivered in about a week. She is a 500 Lb bandage named Bertha. FB 510 is her birth name, but she will be Bertha as soon as she rolls off the truck.

Bertha will join the rest of us in the Harman workshop to make as much daw dust as we can!  My wife is eager for me to retire from my sales/engineering job in the coming years and make baby toys instead. I am sure I will be doing both jobs for a while!

I am also looking at some new planes to mix more of hand and power tools. I saw Infinity has a 5 set of wood body planes. For the price, they look pretty decent. Anyone have any experience with them?

Cheers. Bryan.

It was supposed to say “Joining” but my phone changed it and Tapatalk won’t let me change it. Oh well.

Cheers. Bryan.

She came in. Came in at a svelte 670 Lbs!

Going to be a few days before I can get her into the shop and a blade on her.

Cheers. Bryan.

Beautiful saw.. congratulations!

Regarding planes:  i've heard that the infinity planes take a lot of work but can be good performing planes once tuned up.  Not sure if you are committed to wooden planes or just looking for the package.  Depending on what you do, a LA jack plane can be a very versatile option, especially if you get your hands on a few blades for it.  I have the Lee Valley and it's a wonderful tool.

I trust you will get great use of your new saw.

I am a bit concerned that an A frame crate has a Do Not Double Stack sticker on it.

Haha...good one!

Congrats on the new saw!
Where is the shop in relation to the garage?  I have similar weight saw and needed to borrow a fork truck just to lift it from the driveway to the garage, a 1 inch lip above grade.

Thanks Jim!

Basement shop is a floor down on the opposite side of the house. I have a plan, where I build a cart to have this thing on its back and get it to the basement shop. My buddy has an off road pallet jack, but I am not going to have this top heavy, gangly thing take an off road trip.

Cheers. Bryan.

Mostly unpacked...

Now who has some solid recommendations for blades. I have gone all over the place, and can’t determine which one(s) I want. Need a decent resaw (not doing a ton of this right now) and a nice all around one for curves without a mess to sand.

Cheers. Bryan.
