Interested in a multitool, Fein 350 QSL
« on: November 16, 2019, 08:42 AM »
I've decided it's time to get an oscillating multitool for some upcoming renovation work. My research has led me to the Fein 350QSL for its low entry price @ $199. My understanding is I can get a dust extraction attachment for it from Fein that runs along the body of the tool as well as have the option to use the new Festool plunge base w/ dust extraction from the Vecturo OSC 18.

Am I correct with the above? I don't need cordless. They're nice but the price goes way, way up to get one and I'd likely be hooked up to an extractor any time I use it in the house anyway.

Thanks
Matt

The accessories for the new cordless Festool oscillating tool fit nicely on the 350 QSL. I was an early adopter and can confirm the compatability. Also, if you're only after the tool, you don't need to spend $199. They are regularly available on eBay for far less brand new. Finally, the FEIN systainers and hard foam insert fit the the 350 QSL. If you buy the OSC accessories you'll need to make a modification to the foam around where the head fits to allow for the mounting collar. I love my MM and see no need to spend (a lot) more on the OSC or Fein's top end.

Also, regarding the FEIN dust shroud, it is not compatible with the MM.

What about this? It says it fits the 350QSL.

By the way thanks for the tip on buying through eBay. I'd be putting it into a systainer so I don't need the bag. Accessories I'll get as needed.

That works when sanding - it is OK - not as good as Festool, but it works.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting your comment. It works well for sanding but 'okay' for cutting?

I have the dust shroud for my Fein FMM 250 Q. It is as if it isn't there.

The Fein dust collection system you linked to is better than nothing but a dedicated delta sander is much better in terms of collection and usability. I have the Fein set and the thing regularly falls apart during use even when I'm being super careful. It was so obviously an after-thought. However, it cannot be used with anything other than the sanding head that it comes with. So, if dust collection while using a blade or other tooling is what you're looking for then the OSC OSC-AH/TA/AV set (203258) is what you want. I love mine and wouldn't be without it. You can also buy the three pieces included in that set individually.

My apologies for any confusion - when I referred earlier to the "Fein dust shroud" I was referring to this.

What?  ::) I don't have chisels, planes, planer, Jointer, drill press, or a band saw either. I'm just making this stuff up as I go.

With all you do, hard to believe you have not run across the need for an OMT.

Oh believe me Tom I've come across the need. I have just toughed it out with the wrong tools up until now. But this upcoming work involves removing and saving baseboard, cutting out a closet, cutting in new junction boxes and probably more so it's time to give in.

You will regret this purchase..........

You'll spend days wondering why you did not purchase one years ago. Happened to me with the TS.

I had just the opposite experience on a project last week.  The Fein MM collected waaaaaay more dust than the RO90 with delta pad.
