Felder AD941 Outfeed Table Adjustment
« on: August 25, 2019, 08:31 PM »
I have a relatively new (< 3 years with fewer than 50 hours) AD941 Jointer/Planer.  I had Felder commission it and it has worked very well — until recently.  It wasn’t jointing - the problem is the cutters on the silent power cutting head are about 7 thousandths below the outfeed table.
There’s not much in the user’s manual; other than mentioning the adjuster under the table.
I have no idea why it suddenly went out of adjustment (I suspect the ways were ‘sticky’ when the Felder engineer did the setup and the table has since moved).
In any case I called Felder to have them come out and readjust table; however, it seems they’re a bit short-handed and I would have to get on a schedule for the Southern California tech to fly up to San Francisco.
I have a One-Way, so I would just as soon adjust it myself.  My question is what procedure should one follow to lower the outfeed table?
There is a star know under the iron table that I believe adjusts the height.  There is a nut on the upper end of the knob (with very little space to access it).  Is the nut a locking nut; or, does one just put a lot of effort into twisting the star knob?
Any tips on how to access the nut?  Even my stubby wrenches are too long.
Should I use penetrating oil on the ways before I try to adjust it?
Or, does anyone know where to get a proper manual that goes through the process?
Thanks,
Pat

Pat, call ULTIMATE Tools in Burnaby, BC and ask Dan Clermont (owner) if he can give you a phone assist.

Dan sells FELDER and sets up these machines personally.
