I'm a member of another FOG - the Felder Owners Group forum (on Yahoo) and a couple of members have recently said that they've become hooked on Festools. (as I am afraid is the case with me)
As a Felder owner I would say that some of their machines - for instance a jointer planer - would be a good upgrade for Festool owners.  They are all AINA, but are quite pricey.  They have a less expensive brand - Hammer and an industrial range which tries to compete with Martin and Altendorf.

LOL !!! Thanks for letting me know about the Felder version of the FOG  ;D

I need a jointer ... just a little tight for cash right now. What i would really is a jointer which could sit on the north end of my MFT and below the height of the MFT so it wouldn't interfere with large pieces on the MFT.

My wife doesn't know this about me but when we get that bigger house with a dedicated shop I've already made plans for a Felder combo machine. I'd appreciate it if you guys kept that quiet as well  ;)

Sure am glad Mathew created this site as I much prefer the dedicated FOG over the Yahoo version. Find much easier to follow

I'm glad you mentioned the Felder Owners Group.  When I was establishing the Yahoo phase of this forum, the people who run the Felder group were really friendly at helping me with advice and ideas.

I don't own any Felder machines -- my shop is too small to accomodate them!  But I've always been impressed with Felder machines when I've seen them at woodworking shows.  And I've always held very positive feelings about the friendly people who run the Felder Owners Group.

As a matter of fact, even though he hasn't posted, John Renzetti, one of the main players in the Felder Owners Group, is a member of this forum.

My shop is also too small as well although I've eyed up the 500 series and dreamed about a larger shop someday.

I like the european view on safety which is one reason why I like my Festools. I get that same feeling from the Felder combo machines as well

I was a Felder owner before I bought my first Festools.  Jerry Work's postings are largely responsible for the latter.  :D

Getting the big machines into small spaces can be a challenge.  I documented mine here.

It's nice to have both sets of tools.  The Felder makes projects with big batches of similar parts fast and easy, and of course the shaper and planer/jointer are unbeatable for their special purposes.  The Festools are portable and versatile and accurate, and I use them heavily for one-of-a-kind projects.

By the way, John Renzetti just returned from his (final) tour of duty in Iraq.  Thanks for your service, John!
