a very practical approach for powering 3-phase equipment when you have no 3-ph power in the building. Rotary phase converters work well. Not a job for amateurs to set up properly but well worth it - last for years.

For a single machine solution, you can also consider a variable frequency drive or VFD. They take 240 input and output 240 3 phase. A VFD to power 1-3 HP 3 phase motor are reasonably priced and relatively easy to install. Lots of resources on the internet

When you get above 3 HP or want run multiple machines a rotary phase converter usually makes more sense

I have one to drive my Boice Crane drill press and a 8” northfield joiner. Works great.
I placed it on a dedicated cart that rolls over the base of DP. Each piece of equipment has its own circuit breaker and plug.

one more vote for @RJNeal suggestion to put it on a cart. We did that with our system and served us very well over time - well worth the effort  [smile]

Thanks Hans for the vote. Sorry about the way over crowded shop picture.
Here is what the drawers look like. I made the height so the table Is at a normal drilling spot for most work and bits.
I love this drill press.
And the story on how I received it ......
