Hi,

So I wrote about my latest sanding extravaganza here: https://www.festoolownersgroup.com/home-improvement-other-projects/'quick-and-dirty'-basement-door-repair/msg605171/#msg605171

Due to some unfortunate miss information I was told this product didn't exist, when in fact, it's available since January 2020.

The 92602102000 Fein dust extraction set. Price is about 40,- Euro, MSRP.

(The story is as follows: In the beginning of February I contacted Fein about a dust extraction solution for the cordless MultiMaster QSL - I was told by two different employees that it doesn't exist. One even told me that would only ever happen if sales of the cordless MultiMaster QSL go up/ justify such an accessory. So I did the staircase, and after finishing it, talked about it to friend. Who in return showed me a PDF with exactly this dust extraction kit and that it was available since January. I nearly exploded.)

Any way, to have this at hand for future tasks/jobs, I bought it immediately.

Typically Fein. Neatly packaged, looks nice.

Also typically Fein, thought through right to the hex key: The short end is long enough to tighten the screws completely, without catching on the tool mount. (Since the longer end is reduced in size for adjusting the dust extraction port.)

With dust extraction kit,

as well as without.

Not sure if I'm leaving these screws in place, maybe they will rattle loose over time - I don't know. For now I'm going to try it that way.

What can I say, it works. If I had to find something negative about it, it would be the 80mm edge length. 93mm is a vast standard.

( But theres a solution, a friend came up with: Use the 93mm delta sanding pad by Bosch, a protection/interface pad by Mirka and mesh abrasives by SIA.

https://www.bosch-professional.com/de/de/schleifplatten-avz-93-g-fuer-multifunktionswerkzeuge-2593343-ocs-ac/

https://www.mirka.com/Pad-Saver-90x90mm-12H-1Pack-8293012111/

https://www.siaabrasives.com/de/de/siaabrasives-ocs/holz-4367/7900-sianet-17734/ )

Fits the accessory box. (OK, mine is definitely filled to the max, but it will fit! :) )

Yes, I could have used this kit much sooner ...  [scared] [big grin] [wink]

Kind regards,
Oliver

@six-point socket II - this post slipped past me until just now. I must say, how does Fein manage to stay in business when as a company it is so unbelievably poorly run?! You already know my own personal appalling experiences with Fein USA and Fein Canada and so it's so sad to read of your experience. I'm shaking my head as I read this because it brings up all the frustration I experienced those times I contacted Fein here in North America only to end up having to beat my head against a wall because none of the numerous people in customer service, repair/technical service and even engineering had any clue about the most basic questions like "is Part A compatible with Tool B?" Or, "does Fein make a [insert desired accessory] for Tool A?" Or, my personal favorite, "why on earth does Fein make radical changes to an accessory and then use the same exact part number for the new radically different version as the predecessor version (and why does no one at Fein or even at the retailer level even know what I'm talking about here)?" I have never in all my dealings with multitudes of tool manufacturers (and non-tool manufacturers for that matter) encountered a more unorganized train wreck of a company. Fein customer service is a un-contained dumptser fire. Good grief.

I'm sorry you had to do what so many have to do and take things in your own hands to ensure you get want you want. Fein customer service is an outright joke.

Shamefully, this product does not exist in the US, apparently.  And yes, you both have stumbled upon why I purchased the Festool branded versions of their two choice cordless products.

Sadly I have to agree with your description of the situation.

What I left out:

I did write Fein an exceptional testimony, because I was really impressed by the performance of the tool itself. Then I learned about the misinformation and used that testimony I had send as a gateway/ to follow up on it asking how in the world it was possible I was given such a misinformation. Their response was: We're sorry. But hey, feel free to/ why not buy the dust shroud directly from us. Oh and that cap you asked about, we can sell you one, e-mail us as well. (At MSRP of course ...)

Their website wasn't up to date as well. (That's why I didn't find it on myself back then ...)

But I figured I better just forget about it. ;)

This looks great. I used this with my OSC 18 https://fein.com/en_us/accessories/dust-extraction-set-92602091000/.

But I don't like it at all. It doesn't neatly fit on the OSC 18, the vibration create problems because they now move from the dust thing to the handle of the OSC 18 and it melted pretty quickly. Here is how mine looks after medium use.

This dust extraction set seems to avoid some of these problems.

Can  blade be used with that shroud?  Regardless of DC effectiveness, will it work without any interference?

Can the shroud be rotated to whatever direction is desired?

@SRSemenza - Just revisiting this issue. Yes, the shroud is designed such that the extractor fitting pivots around the head of the tool. However, as I understand it, its travel is limited by the obstruction created by the body of the machine. IOW the orbit around the head is restricted to something less than 360-degrees (maybe around 280-degress or so?).

That said, given that the updated shroud dispenses with the finicky body-length, micro-volume dust collection tube (which screams out for zip ties or a big pipe clamp to hold it in place) and the flimsy white felt gasket (which is such an obvious afterthought it's laughable) it appears to be a massive improvement over the truly insulting version that Fein foisted on us beginning a few years back. Of course, actually getting ahold of the updated version here in North America is a whole other matter.

But, to that end, after girding myself for what I fully expected to be a thoroughly disappointing experience, I earlier today called Fein Tool USA (located in Pittsburgh) and spoke with an individual who the company's voicemail system referred to as a "Customer Service Representative" (a total mischaracterization given that Fein, as a company, is incapable of actually providing "customer service"). To that obviously under-resourced and poorly-supported individual, I posed the following question: "When do you expect that the improved MultiMaster sanding/dust extraction set (Fein part #92602102000) will arrive in North America?"

Of course, the agent on the other of the phone had absolutely no idea what I was talking about.

So, rather than waste any more effort with Pittsburgh (I've been down that road before and know it just ends in misery), I then transmitted an email to Fein's German headquarters which poses the same question (OK, it also contains a scathing critique). I'll report back if and when I receive a response. Naturally, I'm not holding my breath.

Not to be outdone, I then dedicated a little time to authoring and transmitting an email to the usual suspects (those Euro-retailers who have so graciously assisted me in the past in circumventing the annoying NAINA blockade) - and some new-to-me ones too - in order to see who might be willing to send me this accessory. I've had enough of fumbling around with the prior version of the sanding head/extractor combo and feel I deserve what my brethren in Europe can easily get their hands on (not unlike universal healthcare - but that's another topic). I'll let you all know what I hear back.

Still haven't heard a peep from Fein GMBH. Classic fail. What a disaster of a company.

Anyways, while waiting, I took delivery of two of the improved sanding heads/dust shrouds (Fein 92602102000). I'm keeping one and selling the other. Check out this classified listing to buy my spare (it's compatible with the OSC 18, the MultiMaster 350QSL and the latest corded and cordless versions of the SuperCut, among other makes and models).

Regardless of the DC effectiveness, can a blade be attached / used in conjunction with the new Fein shroud on the Festool 18v OSC?

On the Vecturo the DC set ups can not be used in all situations because of the attachment interactions.   If the new Fein can be attached while a blade is in use it will expand the DC possibilities.

Neat. I was debating keeping or selling the Fein 350QSL now that I have the OSC 18. Looks like I'll be leaving the sanding shroud on the Fein and the Festool adapter on the OSC.

Does the dust shroud make the Fein MM 350 ( Starlock ) a little cumbersome? I have a Rotex RO 150 which I use for delta sanding. Other than the occasional sawing, would the shroud come in handy? What was the price of the item? I would need to pay for international shipping if it’s NAINA.

Hi,

The 92602102000 Fein dust extraction set. Price is about 40,- Euro, MSRP.

That was in early 2020, Germany.

I guess you mean RO 90 for delta sanding?

Anyway, this shroud is solely meant for sanding - not cutting. Will it extract dust that is airborne and within its vicinity - yes. If you want to reliably extract dust while sawing, please take a look here: https://www.festool.com/accessory/203256---osc-av#Overview
