Table saw noise

I am thinking of downsizing my shop. One of the things I might swap out is my large grizzly table saw, Which I love because of it accuracy and quiet operation. I should also mention that I usually use  an 8 inch blade in it. I have been looking at the Skill 8 1/2 inch portable table saw. Does any know the noise level of it.  All the portable table saws I have seen are ear splitting noisy things. Any input will be appreciated thanks

Just about every compact/portable job site saw uses a universal motor, which is super loud. Larger machinery uses an induction motor which is much quieter. I don’t think there are truly quiet options, but you may want to see what Makita offers; many of their tools are the quietest in the industry.

You need one with an induction motor, they are much quieter than standard electric motors. Your Grizzly probably has one too, like most stationary saws. But most portable table saws don't have one and that's why they're louder.

I can't help you with recommending a model in the states. My Festool CS70 and the new TKS 80 have one though.

That Skil saw sold incredible cheap here, further research revealed that it is extremely noisy.
Aside from that, it seems like a very very good saw for the money.

Festool’s table saws are very quiet. I don’t think my CS 50 has an universal motor, but it’s certainly one of the most quiet small table saws I’ve encountered.

Bosch’s XC is also reasonably quiet.

The portables all have those screaming motors (as has been noted), so one option for smaller/more portable than your Grizzly cabinet saw could be an old (1970's-1990's) Craftsman (don't laugh  [big grin] ). They were made in the US by Emerson, parts are plentiful, they are easy to repair, and they are readily available for sale on CL.  The motor hangs off the back and with a link belt they are fairly smooth and quiet. Even with the cast iron extensions (versus the steel) these things don't weigh more than (maybe?) 150 pounds. I had one years ago with a Vega fence on it and it was decent.

Rob Z   I had one of those old Craftsman saws, it was the one I learned on. When I upgraded to the Grizzly cabinet saw I passed it along to a friend who needed a saw for hi shop. It was indeed a good saw and still working to this day.
