$279 with two 6amp batteries and a charger at Home Depot

I like the this router better than the equivalent Makita and the batteries are worth more than $200, but these batteries are a bit too heavy and cantilevered for comfortable use with the small footprint router. Could be great for other tools and you can use your smaller batteries for the router.

It's temping as an entry point to the M18 platform.

I've been resisting adding cordless brands other than my go-to DeWalt 20V that I've had for years but it's getting tougher since some of the best tools aren't available. I'd love to add the small Bosch 12v router but the same reason has stopped me. I already had 20V yellow, Milwaukee 12V and the TSC when Ryobi got me with a $99 buy the batteries and get a tool free Xmas deal.

Where does it end?

Unfortunately it doesn't...

...I managed to slim down the cordless line-up to include only Milwaukee M12 & M18 and Festool 10.2V & 18V tools. That lasted for about 18 months until the Stihl AS & AP systems followed me home one day.

If you do not need the batteries and charger, another choice presents itself.

Home Depot currently has an M18 starter kit with charger for $299 but you get to choose a free tool. The router is one of the choices. Since this deal is on two skus, the system prorates the return value of each item. The starter kit can be returned for $179 and keep the router for a price of $120. Currently selling for $199 at HD.

Why don't you just get the 20V Dewalt router then? I like my dewalt router a bit better than my Milwaukee one, although they are both fine really. Dewalt has a pretty full lineup of 20V tools, particularly if you include the 60V ones.

Already have it, as well as the Ryobi which is set up with a chamfer bit. I love having dedicated routers, if I had another cordless I'd probably leave a flush trim bit in it.

My comment/idle interest was related to adding the M18 batteries, after which it's a lot more appealing to add bare tools. Dewalt covers most of my needs but every now and then there's a gap in their offerings.

When I sold off all of my Bosch 10.8/12v, several years ago, it was to minimize battery platforms.
With the single exception of the CXS, everything I have is Makita 18v.
One of the guys at work has the DeWalt trim router, I don't really like it too much. It is quite a bit bigger in diameter, not particularly nice to hold.

Dedicated routers is something I can definitely get behind. 4 Bosch Colts, 2 Rigid R2401, and 3 Makita cordless and 1 corded. That's just the trim routers.

One thing I can say about those Milwaukee 18v is that they run very quiet. You can barely hear it run.

Three Bosch, two have shot bearings (pre Colt), two Ridged, one PC (the sweet short fat one), two Makita cordless, and two M18. I wouldn’t mind having the 20v Dewalt, I like the depth adjustment and a wider base would be welcome sometimes.

I agree with CRG about the dewalt cordless being too big and not having great ergonomics, the Ryobi is even worse. I've never used one but the makita looks nice.

And yea, there are 8 or 10 more routers lurking in the cabinet... the dewalt is the only one I have multiples of but they are all corded except one.

The only problem with the Makita is the height adjustment is a bit clunky. I wish they'd design a better, smoother mechanism.

The thing that always comes to mind for me with Milwaukee is their battery inverter that @Cheese frequently posts about for using light-duty (175 W or less) corded tools, usually outdoors on his patio.

Any more info or images from the email? Milwaukee's recharged-type event called "pipeline" is imminent! I've also heard whispers that they're going to add more energy dense flat cell batter packs to the M18 lineup which makes sense to come out bundled given the demands of a router

Makes sense to leverage as much of the existing body grip router as possible but at $350 bare tool I think they could have changed to a finer screw for depth fine adjustment. The Festool routers have four times finer depth adjustment.

While I have and use a lot of Milwaukee 12 and 18v tools, I do not consider them suitable for finer work, their tools are targeting contractors and carpenters hence the lack to finesse.

Guide rail rig looks complicated (and interesting) but no micro-adjust? Hopefully it will also fit the existing body grip router.

Haven’t found a picture of the edge guide but no reason why it should be different than the existing edge guide.

Well let’s hope the new plunge base is better than the old one, that thing was horrific…absolutely junk. I used it once, kept the Body Grip router and promptly purchased a 1400…now that’s a plunge router.

Milwaukee sent a pitch to my email that includes embedded video snippets.
No sign of led lights in the video but lots of dust spewing out.
Their marketing people must think dust and dirt are manly.

Has anyone seen mention of a dust shroud? The little router has a pretty good one.
