Dashboard Guid Rail Bracket set
« on: January 09, 2021, 08:59 PM »
I just wanted to talk about the Dashboard guid rail bracket set. I got mine yesterday. I got it attached today. My first impressions are pretty darn good.
So I just want to say it is worth the wait. The guid rail brackets will turn your work bench into your own "MFT" table. I like the MFT table Festool sells but for my application its too small. So with this product all you need is some t track you mount on the side of your existing work bench. I found it to be a simple process to achieve this . I just put the first T track on then I slid on one side of the bracket and this gave me the perfect distance. I just clamped it all up and screwed it in starting from one end. I would make sure it was sliding and adjust my t track to provide a smooth slide. Once you install the t track the rest is a snap. The kit includes everything you need to square it up.
I made a few test cuts and it works beautifully. My track is so secure it adds a level of confidence in your cuts. I will be adding a bench dogs fence in the near future.
The build quality is very stout. If you have seen the Festool it is a little thin I have no doubt it works but it is not as robust as the Dashboard. I also want to point out when you get your package , he packs your product with extreme care and diligence . You will be happy when you open your prize.  I would love to hear from any one who has this system installed on there bench. I am super excited to really get out there in the next few days and make some serious saw dust.

Hi

I got my pack a few days ago and the quality is really very high. You notice it when you remove the Festool OEM items. The set up was a breeze and the test cuts were bang on first time. I use mine with a Benchdogs UK fence and the pair look really great.

I cant believe Festool have not upgraded their own system.

I have been a big recommender of the dashboard hinge for long time the Achilles heel is their wait time.  I see someone (I think Bench dogs) came out with their own too that looks good too.  Not sure if there is a long wait for it too but the Festool unit is junk compared to the Dashboard unit.

Long wait on the benchdogs too...I ordered a couple weeks ago with a projected end of July ship date. The cool thing with that one is that it mounts into dog holes on the top rather than the frame allowing for it to be used on slap-dash sawhorse setups. Excited to see how it compares to my dashboard (which is excellent).

Have a link to this thing or even what it’s called?

Peter Millard's video on it was very informative:

Don't know what I am doing wrong that the YouTube link won't show up, it shows up in the preview. Search Peter Millard Quad MFT hinge and it shouldn't be hard to find.

I have dashboard setup with benchdogs uk fence and it works great.  I use it on my home made mft with tracktubes and tracktubes cnc top.  Just had to mount 12" 1515 extrusion on each side for the brackets.  Benchdogs hinge looks interesting too

I'd like to thank everyone here for their comments about our patented Guide Rail Brackets. The updated iteration embodies a huge effort in design (and redesign, and redesign, and redesign) and fabrication, to the point where their form is more refined and simplified than ever. This allows us to ship them unassembled for the first time in almost 4 years while making them very easy to put together. We've dealt with supply chain challenges like everyone else but are diligently pursuing increased production, international distribution to reduce import fees, certain custom-made hardware to reduce reliance on randomly unavailable parts, and new financial arrangements that will allow us to keep parts in stock and ready to go far more than we have until now. We're small and have been overwhelmed by interest, but growing pains are a given. We fix mistakes as quickly as possible and we never stop working to be better. Kreg compatibility coming this year and there are always a few tricks up the sleeve.

Does anyone know if the Festool version of the Dashboard hinge works on both the older MFT 1080 and the MFT3? I think the side sliding track is the same on both, but not sure? I think the Festool hinge is the same on both versions of the MFT.

Thx

I have the Dashboard Guide Rail set up with the Incra fence on the TrackStars.  Very well made and a big improvement to my MFT. Customer service is awesome.  Well worth the wait. If I didn't already have the MFT I would get their table too. Maybe some day.

Hopefully one of these days. The fact is that so far nearly every part we manage to have made is sold before it arrives at our shop. We had a few bracket sets on the shelf recently for about 5 days but those were spoken for as of yesterday. "Good problem to have" as people like to say and we're grateful for everyone's patience, but for the longer term we're working hard to arrange larger production runs so ordering and shipping line up a lot closer.

I watched the Millard video and ordered the DashBoard hinge. Changed my order to include the bits that came with the installation kit. I think those triangle pieces mounted with a couple of MagSwitches would make a nifty gadget for cutting narrow pieces on a table saw. Even if they don’t, the improved hinge will be worth the money. Looks to be well engineered. Guess the SlopStop will not be needed.

I recently received mind and used it a bunch this past weekend and really enjoyed the accuracy of the cuts. I think I will upgrade to the Dashboard PWS table at some point in the future.

I do want to add some attachment to be able to latch the guide rail in the up position. At least the specific rail length, position, and stock height I had it set to, it just barely wouldn't stay up. I think Peter Millard had some rubber band or latch to hold his guide rail back. I was thinking of doing something similar.

I have just got the dashboard shortcut (half the size) due to space limitations and it exceeded my expectations and Rob isn't stretching the truth with what the website claims that the company is not a faceless corporation as he has always answered my questions in full detail and really quick.

As for your guide rail, is it the 1080 42" and is it up against a wall?

It took a couple of months to get my Benchdog Quad Hinge but after installing it, the wait was worth it.  Excellent product.

@krudawg I would be interested in hearing more about the Benchdogs setup in use. I have the Dashboard now and it's excellent but my needs have changed slightly where it might be beneficial to attach directly to the top without any extrusion involved.

Rob just sent me the whole kit and Kaboodle.  I plan on doing a full review shortly.  So far, all I can say is wow...
