Dash-board replacement MFT3 guiderail brackets
« on: February 02, 2021, 09:13 PM »
First off, my disclaimer. I paid full price for this unit and have no dog in the hunt other than being a user. Not to long ago, I switched over to using a Mafell MT55 track saw which meant I couldn't use the MFT for crosscutting anymore if I wanted to use the Mafell/Bosch guiderails.  As usual, someone here on the FOG found a hole and decided to fill it.  I saw a post back in December for this replacement guiderail bracket system from Dash-Board that not only would work with Festool rails but the Mafell as well, depending on which version you order. I like to support fellow Foggers when I can so I ordered the bracket set along with the squaring dogs and setup rings. The parts just came in yesterday and I had chance to set it up and try it out.  I should have taken a picture of the boxed parts, but forgot.  Suffice it to say it was cleverly packaged and well protected. Here's the rear and front bracket:

326995-0

326997-1

I was taken initially about just how robust the parts are. No cheap plastic, all the parts are CNC'd, polished and look beautiful.  There wasn't any instructions in the package and when I asked Rob, the owner, about it he said he just hasn't the time to do them. No biggie though, it was all very straightforward and everything fit together very nicely. Having used the OEM system for over a decade, this system doesn't have the flimsy feel, especially on the hinge side.  Once adjusted, the rail almost snaps onto the pin and there is zero slop.  Rock solid.

326999-2

327001-3

327003-4

It uses a knob system for both setting the bracket position on the MFT and to raise and lower the brackets depending on the thickness of your workpiece. That's not as quick and easy as the lever the OEM system uses but it's easy enough. The support plate that has the pin is quite large and it provides a lot more support than the OEM. The downside is it sticks out a bit from edge of the table so one has to be a bit careful not to bump into it.  I'm not worried about it moving but rather potentially causing a bruise! Once the knobs are tightened, it doesn't move and with the set up rings (for Mafell/Bosch) or arrows for the Festool rails, squaring it up to the table only takes a few seconds. I checked with a large Woodpecker square and it appears to be dead on. I'll do a 5 cut test on it this weekend to verify. There is no flex in the hinge when it is raised and lowered, it has just a smooth movement that has a quality feel to it. I think this system is a big improvement over the factory setup. The price is reasonable and fit and finish was exemplary. This really is a better mousetrap.

Have you seen Right Angle Design'shttps://dashboardpws.com/shopproduct?  It looks as if it performs a similar function to the Dashboard brackets.  I might give the Track Star a try since it meets some of my needs for ensuring square cuts.

Dash-Board® and RightAngleDesign are one. I started RightAngleDesign earlier and it was originally all about phone stands and tablet stands sold on Etsy while the bench and guide rail brackets were in development. I'm trying to end RightAngleDesign and run all sales through www.dashboardpws.com.

Good stuff and this is super high quality stuff - when I got mine I have both the FT and Mafell options to interchange between the two - the ultimate in versatility! Highly recommend this product and Rob is a great guy to work with.

Sorry I did not make it clear that Dashboard and Right Angle are the same.  The Dashboard brackets seem to get universal praise for their quality and utility.  The Track Star is intriguing as another option for use on MFT style tables.  Both products look like upgrades for those of using MFT type tables.

Purchased a Dashboard hinge set up last week & awaiting delivery after watching a YouTube video review on the MFT where the presenter replaced the original parts. Looks like good solid gear to me.

I'm waiting on my Dash-Board work bench and accessory bundle after seeing a very positive review in Fine Homebuilding. Apparently a lot of other folks did the same as Rob is now very busy filling orders. I understand mine will be shipped soon.

Thanks, everyone. What we're working on now is the best yet and production remains slower than I'd like, but it's all moving in the right direction.

Can anyone compare this to the Festool rail pivot for the MFT/3 set with or without a Slop Stop?

It looks more solid and reliable and accurate, but I don't yet have an MFT/3 to test or compare.

I have an MFT with a slop stop & still have difficulties with it. Watch the YouTube video by 'Concentric Designs' titled 'MFT Review'. The guy is 100% correct & i have experienced the same as he. Can't wait for the Dashboard gear & yes, Rob's table looks awesome!

Thanks for the pointers, @Eggy Toast !

Took me a little bit to find the video, I think his channel is actually "Concentric Home Solutions".

And this might be the video:

I enjoyed the video, but I must argue with calling the MFT premium. I wasn't aware of anything in North America to compare it with until perhaps the Kreg cutting system.

I couldn't justify one. I made my own top using the Raven pegboard jig and bought a fence form Benchdogs.co.uk. I think if you assembled the MFT table from discrete components you would easily go past the MFT's price.

I wonder if it a sort of lost leader to get Festool users mobile.

I too enjoyed the video and the guy! I was laughing out loud at times. It hurt a little bit because I (and many I know) have gone thru this/these same situation(s) - albeit several years ago - .
It IS funny how we are willing to throw money at something, wanting to make it work....and I too give Rob/ Dashboard, a lot of praise for the quality products.
There are no mistakes....just new designs.
