Two Projects Finished - Sewing Cabinet & Porch/Deck
« on: September 03, 2019, 08:59 AM »
Built a sewing cabinet for my daughter. Used the Wood magazine design as a guide. When it came to finishing time my daughter wanted it PINK! I used my new TSO square (GRS) and parallel guides (TPG) for as many cuts as possible. This system is not only accurate but a joy to work with. Put on your  8):

My wife wanted a porch out front and finished that up too. She really likes the recessed lights. Now she is hinting she wants a couple of rocking chairs built:

Love that porch. It's beautiful.

Sewing desk, is nice, but that color. And I know it's what your daughter wanted. [scared]

Ha - it's definitely pink but the picture seems to over exaggerate the pinkness/redness. Oh, it also have metallic tint added. I used maple ply and some coffee bean tree hardwood for the trim. Looked really nice without a finish - then was given the orders to go pink.

More of the story - I used TransFast pink powder dye and was able to get the color she wanted. I was going to seal it with de-waxed shellac before clear coating it with waterborne finish. Heard sometimes the shellac can make the WB finish craze so I called up the dye supplier and top coat supplier. Both said they had experience with this dye and suggested to just put a light coat of the WB on as a seal coat. Well guess what - the finish turned bright orange! How disappointing after all the hard work. I then looked around and found Mixol tint that is added to the top coat and as you can see was able to get back to pink again. Now this thing has 8 coats of EM9300!
