New CNC spoilboard

My CNC spoilboard was over due so I decided to give it a fresh look. The original had a very basic clamping capability. Butt the board against the two pieces and screw the four corners.

The MDF available here is of poop quality but it's just a spoilboard right! Here some material that will be used. Out of a 4'x8' sheet I got enough material to make 3 spoilboards.

I changed my mind about the brass inserts. They look nice for sure but are prone to strip easily so I went with a more sturdy ones that can be installed with allen key instead.

I did a dry fit just for fun  [big grin]

Installing the first strip, easy peazy.

You know the satisfaction when you use a template to bore holes and everything fit perfectly for the first time ever in your life  [eek]

The t-track (6) are 36" long.

And the final result.


Coming soon: I will make some 20mm holes for clamping purpose

Will you not miss the Z height by laying the new spoilboard on top of the old?

Effectively, it went from 3" to 2" 1/4 of travel. I went that path because all the boards I have carved with the CNC since the last 2 years, were under 25mm thick. Most of the time I use 1/32" to 1/4" bits and those are under 1/2" to 1" of cutting edge. Cutting deeper with the machine I have is kinda tricky. Feasible but I don't see any scenario I would.

If ever I get into CNC more seriously, I will get a full size machine like the Axiom Precision or similar.

For me that CNC machine was an experiment. To see if I could DIY a kit and how useful a CNC can be in my situation. The DYI build took 2.5hrs plus some wire management. Lately I add a zeroing plate to it and job setup is a breeze compare to previously. Oh and a wireless motion controller is a must [big grin]

I like it Mario...nice job.  It reminds me of a Shelix cutter head, you only replace the damaged item. [big grin]

Here a picture of the spoilboard finished. 8x6 dog holes grid. I have two 3mm holes bored on the back of each strip. Haven make the 20mm hole because I don't see using that part yet. Fun fack, I bored all 3mm & 20mm holes with the CXS on one single batteries not even full charged. Boring was really easy.

Blue shapes: They are from Yellowshedbox. L angle to butt your material and cam clamps. They are a very very nice fit into the UJK Parf guide system holes.
Yellow shapes: Again from Yellowshedbox. Easy to pull-out dogs with extreme nice fit.
Bench-Dog Fence: I put it there kust so I can test their dogs. Very nice fit there too.

UJK Parf Bit Tear-out under MDF boring like no tomorrow. I was testing on MDF and bored a hole without worrying (full blown) about tear out. The small adjacent hole is from a Brad Point bit.


L.V. dogs

Three different dogs from L.V. none have a good fit. The stainless steel Super Parf Dog is a ok fit but still have some movement. I will have to get me some TSO Dogs  [big grin]
