Rob,

Congrats on the adoption :)

Do you need to use a steady rest when turning a bat. I've never tried a full size one. I made some little ones for my son when he was younger.

I didn't use a steady rest, but could of used one. The wood is ash, I bought a blank from Woodcraft. I actually finished the bat yesterday, and now it is at the gentleman who does my laser engraving. I wish I had a laser engraver.

Actually I found his website.    http://www.gentlegiantwoodworks.com/index.htm           He is a real nice guy, I wish my bats turned out as nice as his.  I did see a stack of Festools in his shop today. When I pick my bat up,  I will tell him about this site, he might want to look around here.

Wooden bats seem to be picking up in popularity with HS ball players now.  We've done 2 at school already this year and I have a kid with teh third already on the big lathe.

Rob, numbering the bat is a nice touch! ;)

Rob, congrats on the adoption.  I am sure you will all be te better for it and very happy.

A quicky for you.

Many years ago, my Mom & Dad decided to give it up.  my brother & I were deposited on a farm to stay with my Dad's cousins for a couple of weeks while they sorted out their problems.  we ended up staying for 6 very happy years.  The cousins were like mom and dad to us (especially for me who had been a very mixed up kid until we moved in with them)  The mother was so like another mother to the two of us, ware gone now, but e ended up calling her our "Udder Mudder".  Both real mom and Udder mom but many happy meories from both

I never had the perfect parent life either, but I am now realizing in life that alot of people's parents haven't stayed married, or that other family members raised them. I try to take experiences from others on raising my kids. I'm divorced, but maintain a friendly relationship with my ex. I had a friend that had twin girls, so when he got a divorce, they each take a child and raise them, she moved far away, so they didn't get to see each other often. But what really surprised me was when he told me that him and his ex wifes new husband was like best friends, they went fishing together, camping. So I take his life experience in raising my kids. I'm not best friends with my ex's husband, but it is by his choice, I don't have any problems with him, but he is not as open minded.

Oh come on, Rob. He's jealous of your hot new wife!

Great job on the bat. It sure will sound different than those annoying aluminum ones they all use these days. Old school.

Old school, Yeah, thats the way I like it.
I actually thinks he thinks I want my old wife back. AS IF. I tell you what, I cannot do any good in his eyes. I work all night, so I can't make it to after school things, and I apparently just sleep all day long cause I'm sooo lazy. I know, because I hear it when I pick the kids up, but I keep my mouth shut, and enjoy my kids.

Also thanks for the hot wife compliment. She likes to hear that, she doesn't think that always, and she gets a little smile when I tell her someone said that.

That's not very healthy stuff for your kids to be hearing from their step-father. Probably not much you can do about it, except contradict by example. Hopefully they're smart enough to know what a good dad you are, and I'm sure you're doing what you can, given the circumstances. Deep breaths. He's married to your ex-wife, so you win!

Plus (and this is a big one) you have Festools!
