Plastic anchor things in garage ceiling?
« on: August 20, 2020, 10:11 PM »
I'm looking to refinish (er, finish) the drywall in my garage, 1977 construction, tri-level home. There is a row of plastic... anchors? I'm not sure. They run along the ceiling in a straight line across the middle of the garage, perpendicular to the garage doors. One appears to be ripped out. Curious if anyone knows the purpose of these plastic "humps" and if I can safely remove them?

Here's a video I captured:

Ryan it looks to me like little covers someone used to cover holes, hard to tell in the video but it looks like there was a spot in the line where a hole saw was started but not finished through. Did someone blow insulation into the joist bays maybe?  Or perhaps since it is in the middle there is a center beam there and at one time someone had something hanging from the beam. Could also be the worst atttempt ever to find a joist to screw to. My bet if there are holes under those covers are that they are holes from insulation getting blown in at some point. Or maybe running some wiring in the worst DIY ever.

Could have been a grow room, they may have had a plastic wall, the holes might have been used for pulling wiring/tubing, or it could be electrical covers. Get a step stool, and pull them down. What's under them? Got a picture? Shine a light in the hole and look around.

Garage drywall is a perfect place to learn. Those hole repairs should be pretty easy to resolve.
