Took a bit of a tumble while schussing the slopes in Deer Valley, Utah couple of weeks ago. Lucky to walk away with just a mild concussion and a fractured wrist. Anyhoo, when they asked me which color cast I preferred, there was only one choice for me:

OUCH, Jim!

I have been rolling with no ACL and a torn meniscus in my right knee since a skiing incident in the Alps. Double black with a traverser in front of me that ran me off piste...

Thanks guys.....feeling much better now. I've had 3 drs. examine my head and all agree I'm on the road to a full recovery. My wrist is just an inconvenience more than anything else. Have to figure out a way to keep the sawdust out of my cast (when using non-festool tools of course

)

My wife had her GoPro running the entire run. It was one of the last runs of the last day of our trip so luckily didn't miss much. It was an awesome trip otherwise. If interested, the accident is 2:11 in, I let my skis run fast at the bottom of a steep groomer and my binding pre-released. I looked down and one ski was gone. I'm so far ahead of her at this point that it only appears as a puff of snow, not much to see but check out how narrowly I missed a cluster of trees and a snow making hydrant, as well as a picture of my crushed helmet at the end. It shattered as my head glanced off a tree as I passed on by. I dodged a very big bullet...er....tree! Lesson to any skiers or riders out there, wear a helmet and always expect the unexpected!

Dang, I wish I had such a cool vid of my accident. You were lucky to only walk away with a concussion and a broken wrist. Those will heal just fine. I broke my collarbone while biking, on the same day Michael Schumacher banged his head into a rock while skiing. The doctors were also very concerned about possible head trauma I might have, but that was no problem. I'm fully healed now, Michael not so much. You could have been a lot worse off Jim, luckily your helmet took a big portion of the blow. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Wow looks like you were moving pretty fast. Hope you heal quickly. The doctors could have put a t-lock latch on that so they could open it up and check on the healing process.

That's a very good idea but more so Jim could open it up and scratch... It will be very itchy before it comes off.

Hope your not "in the green" for too long, Jim! A friend of mine that had a similar cast kept a piece of brass brazing rod handy for the itching.

That's not the way you're supposed to 'sport the green' no matter where you're from! Ouch!

An old coat hanger also works to relieve itching. Just sayin'...

Hope you didn't get the "raccoon mask" that sometimes accompanies a concussion. Then again, dark blue to go with your green cast...

No raccoon mask this time, Willy. Not even a headache or even a stiff neck. My short term memory was briefly gone that day and for 2 weeks, had trouble concentrating and felt tired all the time. I even caught myself nodding off in the afternoon at Connect. All better now though.

Hi,@Jim Kirkpatrick, my father in law was a ski instructor at deer valley, I showed him that video he said that was not steins way.btw he was an avid woodworker

I really liked skiing Deer Valley. I worked as a night lift operator at Park City. I skied 6 to 8 hours a day,800 days in 4 years. The year they opened Deer Valley they allowed other Resort workers to come ski for free, a mistake I'm sure they haven't repeated. Dozens of us riding our 223 CM boards, tucking top to bottom on those perfectly groomed runs.

The video was posted over 7 years ago. People often update, delete, or protect their videos and accounts on YouTube.

Hi @guybo , not sure what video you were just looking at, it was taken down 7 yrs ago, I thought it was too graphic…..maybe you were looking at a closest match. It was indeed Steins Way that I crashed on, I’d put my life savings on it. All better now, it’s just a distant memory now but I still ski regularly and remind myself of that incident often. Disaster can happen around any corner.

Hi, my father in law died at the end of 2014,I remember it like it was yesterday a good memory is both a blessing and curse anyway back to the farm. guy. Sorry the run is named after Stein Errkison,and he did not ski that way
