Guess the movie "quote"
« on: August 25, 2022, 06:32 PM »
Figured I would see if this goes anywhere.  One person posts a movie quote they like and the rest have to guess the movie.  First person to get it right gets to post the next quote.  No cheating (google) and no jumping the line. I will start.

"Forgiveness is between them and God, my job is to arrange the meeting"

I'll admit to having zero clue, so I googled it. Still clueless... [popcorn]

Besides, I saw a movie just last year.

I had no idea so I had to cheat and google I wont ruin it but I guess we should say if its a Foreign (not US) film.  ( Do those across the pond call US made films "foreign films"?) hmmm... I still have no idea about this movie.  I was originally thinking it must be type of off the wall sci-fi comedy since I dont typically watch that genre much.

You got it in less than a hour.  One of my all time favorite movies. I think I saw originally in 1969 or 1970.  I believe John Wayne was originally supposed to be Butch Cassidy and Paul Newman to be Sundance. but John Wayne had a scheduling conflict.

"I mean, really, I mean…. I mean, all right. Let’s say: if I get a fortune cookie in a Chinese restaurant, I mean, of course, even I have a tendency, I mean, you know, I mean, of course, I would hardly throw it out! I mean, I read it, I read it, and I just instinctively sort of, you know, if it says something like: “Conversation with a dark-haired man will be very important for you,” well, I just instinctively think, you know, who do I know who has dark hair? Did we have a conversation? What did we talk about? In other words there’s something in me that makes me read it, and I instinctively interpret it as if it were an omen of the future, but in my conscious opinion, which is so fundamental to my whole view of life, I mean, I would just have to change totally to not have this opinion, in my conscious opinion, this is simply something that was written in the cookie factory, several years ago, and in no way it refers to me! I mean, you know, the fact that I got–I mean, the man who wrote it did not know anything about me, I mean, he could not have known anything about me! There’s no way that this cookie could actually have to do with me! And the fact that I’ve gotten it is just basically a joke! And I mean, if I were to go on a trip, on an airplane, and I got a fortune cookie that said “Don’t go,” I mean, of course, I admit I might feel a bit nervous for about one second, but in fact I would go, because, I mean, that trip is gonna be successful or unsuccessful based on the state of the airplane and the state of the pilot, and the cookie is in no position to know about that."

If you were born in the early 1950s, this will be a slam dunk.  Otherwise, I am not sure:

What we have here is a failure to communicate.

Would that tell you the movie?  Or would it assume that Guns n Roses was the source of the quote?

OK, here's one that is at least somewhat woodworking related:

Another very commonly quoted one in the same vein, also from a movie:

"What we have here, is a clear lack of respect for the law!"

This is an old movie now, but not nearly as old as Cool Hand Luke.

The Shawshank Redemption. Easily in my top #3 movies of all time. OK - here's mine;

"Dere's all dis dough, see? All dis dough. Three hundred and fifty g's. It's in a box. Buried in Santa Rosita Big State Park under a big 'W'. You hear what I'm saying? A 'W'. A great big dubbleya.Three hundred and fifty g's. You can't miss it. I'm givin' it to ya, you hear? All you have to do is drive down there and dig it up, then fix yourselves all up. But watch out for the bulls. Bulls are everywhere"

It was Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

Of course, in the new Kelvin Timeline movies, we get to actually SEE Kirk growing up in Iowa.  Although I have yet to see the massive mining pits down in Riverside that the movie portrayed...

It's also a line I wouldn't mind being able to say some time; I love space, and would love to get at least into orbit, if not to the moon some day.  Okay, maybe I wouldn't want to work up there...

We seem to have skipped Buford T. Justice up there, though...

Here's my quote, as it were:

Actor 1 : There's one case, one case in a career where you go all in. This is it.
Actor 2 : All right. Then you do us proud. 'Cause I don't want no scrubs.
Actor 3 : Really?
Actor 2 : No.
Actor 3 : You're not aware that's a TLC song?
Actor 2 : I have no idea what you're talking about.
Actor 3 : It's the second time.
Actor 1 : You said chasing waterfalls, now you're saying you don't want no scrubs.
Actor 2 : I don't even understand the reference.
Actor 3 : It's like a tic.
Actor 2 : I have no idea what you're talking about.
