Kreg McMahon--The Bead Board King
« on: April 05, 2022, 09:47 PM »
It is with heavy heart I inform everyone Kreg past away today.

Many knew hin from here on FOG, some from JLC also.

I met Kreg many years ago while in Atlanta (2008). He brought me to Hartsville Hardware (I may have the name wrong) where he taught cabunet building classes for awhile. I bought my first Festool drill there.

Fast forward a few years and Kreg and I were in a class together at Festool (now you know why Srdge is the way he is....). I was heading home that Friday, he was staying the weekend for a Monday class. Told me he was going to just sleep in the van, no way I was letting that happen. At that time I live in Cedar Lake, a 2 hour drive north for a sane person. Told him he's coming to stay with us, then I called my wife.....We spent the weekend together, he got to meet the only other person I call a true friend. Sunday evening he head back down to Festool with some food and water for the trip. I imagine he slept in the van in the parking lot.

My youngest daughter thought he was nuts, well of course he is, he knows me....

About 6 weeks ago he visited his oldest daughter and granddaughter in CA, right before he went to JLC 2 weeks ago he saw his daugher and grandson in SC.

He's a person I'm very proud to call my friend.

That is terrible and sad news. Kreg was a very nice person on the forum and always willing answer questions and help. He filmed lots of You Tube videos when You Tube was in its early days. RIP, Kreg!

Thanks for letting us know Tom.

Kreg used to post here a lot back then as honeydokreg.
For a while it seemed like he was an itinerant mantle maker from the projects he posted.
As his skills accumulated his projects grew more complex and allowed less time to hang out here.

It was probably Highland Woodworking where he taught those classes.

Keep on trucking Kreg!

I've known Kreg since the old JLC forums days.

We spoke on the phone and he helped me out with advice when I first got interested in Festool.

Kreg was one of the good guys for sure.

He will be missed.

Really said news.  Kreg loved life and didn't have a mean bone in his body.  Always upbeat and every glass of water was full.  Over the years life threw him health challenges but he always came out on top.  What really impressed me the most wasn't his carpentry.  It was the totally absolute love he had for his family and his grandchildren especially his grandson who recently turned one.  Reading and seeing his posts on Facebook where he talked of them would make any father and grandfather envious.

My thoughts go out to his family and friends.  I can honestly say that I will keep that little piece of beadboard he autographed for me at a past JLC Live event.  If Festool USA still has that old map with pins in it in their headquarters that. showed where visitors came from, I hope that little piece of a bandana is still their attached to his pin.

Peter,

What a beautiful eulogy!

What I will always remember about Kreg was his willingness to help anyone (including me) and marketing advice about handing out fifty cards a day.  His optimism was an inspiration.

Seeing his growth as a craftsman with each project (and he posted them all) was fun to watch.

Also, he celebrated every "birthday" after surviving a heart attack.  I followed his advice and started doing the same thing after mine.  I'm turning five this July

I can never look at bead board without thinking of him fondly.  Kreg was one of a kind.

Joe

I met Kreg once at JLC. He was always up beat and dynamic.

Kreg contributed a lot to the forum. Over 1,600 posts. Many project topics included.

Here is a link to his profile if anyone wants to read through his topics and posts.  Honeydokreg
