There was a particular incident that caused the loss of a lot of pics years ago. It has not been an ongoing or regular problem.

I get that an outside hosting service can protect pics from being lost on a forum, but then again those services can have issues as well. Or decide to nix everyone's pictures. Which one was it that recently that killed pic access to many, many forums?

On a personal note I hate having to click and go to another link, page, etc while trying to read about the pictures being shown. Then switch between picture and the text.

I agree, this is annoying. This seem to be the case in some other forums as well. As one (if I get it right) is using this forum the picture and text is vital to fully view a post.
I now tend to include full size photos, as when reading post here it is so much more smooth, as pictures adds the “thousand words” to the story.

Am I right that when using a thumbnail the server must find the full size picture in “another” directory? As opposed to a full size image witch is saved as “one” along with the text.
I suspect that, reading old posts, where thumbnails are clickable, but the image disappears because the full size image can’t be found. The opposite is with in-line full images.

I think the same can be said of images that reside someplace other than the forum.

I've encountered posts as I am sure others have on this and other forums with links to images in the posters' cloud account.

It's all good until that person closes the account for whatever reason, or cleans out all those old photos forgetting that they are linked to a thread here or somewhere else. Then you're left with nothing but a 'not found' error message of some sort.

So either way can be a blessing or a curse.
