Is there a "Thank you" button
« on: February 16, 2013, 07:44 PM »
Is there a button to give a certain post credit? Somehow I miss this function, wether I like a post, or someone has answered my question.

Nope.  But you can post your thanks in that thread and even use some of these if you want:   [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up]

Thank you for wanting to thank those here who voluntarily give so much help!  Kudos to both you and them.    [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up]

You mean like the one I just gave your post?

You should see a "Thank you" link on the upper right side of posts in this board now.

If it's something members will find useful, I'll turn it on for other boards/sections of the forum.

There was an existing mod or add-on for our forum software that does this.

What wrong with a simple "Thank you", like generations before us did?

I think the idea is that it's more discreet and doesn't fill the thread with "thank you" posts.

I myself don't really recall many threads where that happened anyway.

Anything you add to a forum will clutter it more. Question is if that's worth it.

Must only be visible by the recipient? I don't see any thank you by Shane to Makkus.

Well, this mod isn't very well documented and the titles for the options are somewhat cryptic. See if you see it now.

Still don't see it.   [huh]

But, I do see a Thank You counter to the left of the posts.

I should mention that the mod was written by a native Spanish speaker so the titles are in Spanglish.

Trying again to make it visible.

Here's what I see.

Maybe I'm blind, but I do not see a "Thank you by...." in my post.

Why would I like this function? Well being around in other forums I think this quite useful to get feedback, since it is very easy. You do not have to start a new post, just a simple click is enough. The thread stays "clean", because no extra lines or additional posts (without adding value).

Since I'm new here I do not want to have a major impact on others users experience. I was just wondering if I overlooked something, since I find a lot of threads very helpful and informative, but I do not want to always comment with a new post (a lot of them are also older and will pop up as new, I think this not purpose of the function "show new messages")

Thank you, Shane.

Well played, sir.  [tongue]

Ok, I see where there was another place where I had to enable members to see the thank yous and see the thank you button itself. It's only active in this section of the forum currently.

So, look again to see if you see it. Again, apologies, the documentation was virtually nonexistent.

I see how it works...click the little button and your name appears with others in the thread.  Thanks!

If someone thanks you, does it trigger the "unread posts since last visit" or "new replies to your posts?"

iv been thinking more about this.
im leaning more towards being in favor .
i like that you can easily thank  someone for answering your question
but on other forums i have found it a bit anoying . you go to the site and up pops a window  tells you you have been thanked  ,then you spend a few minutes going through webpages to get to them and back to where you were
i presume you would get a window telling you that you recieved a thank you similar to the PM window.
i woul rather have a like button . if someone asks a question they get 10 replies . some a good but some are great. it would be good to be able to click the like button to show you agree .

I "liked" your post Alan  I kinda agree I rather have a like than thank you.

As a "like" can mean more.

 It can mean

you agree what was said
you are supporting that person what he/she said

you actually like what was said

you appreciate/happy the/with  feedback/answer given
