Rubio monocoat 2 coats

I know the name says 1 coat but I would like to do a second coat. Searching the internet Rubio mentions that you can do 2 coats on walnut. Doing a walnut wall cap. Watched this video about doing a second coat but not sure what to use to rough up the surface before the second coat. Amazon link as it as being similar to #00 steel wool. Thinking about using the green vlies pad between coats. Here is my plan:
1. Trowel on the monocoat
2. Work in with white vlies on rotex mode.
3. Wipe with terry towel
4. Rough up with green viles ?????????
5 Trowel
6. Work in with white vlies
7. Buff with sheepskin pad in rotex mode
Step 4 is what I am not sure of. I have to experience with the Festool vlies. Most likely overkill seeing that that is my MO. Also not sure about using the maintenance oil.Thoughts?

Can't speak to step #4, but i can't tell you i just finished a coffee table with 1 coat of rubio and one coat of maintenance oil and it came out amazing.  The rubio by itself leaves a fairly flat "close to the wood finish".  Typically exactly what i like.  My wife wanted the coffee table to look like it had a little something extra and the maintenance oil does exactly that.  Makes it look a bit more "finished" if that makes any sense.  Could not have been more happy with the results.

I researched the 2 coat thing that you are asking about.  It seems like rubio is designed to bond to the fibers of the wood.  So the second coat in theory isn't doing a lot for you since after you apply it, on the buffing process you are going to wipe 99% of it off.  I am by no means an expert here just sharing what i learned.  Even for flooring they only recommend one coat.  I think you will be fine with a coat of rubio and a coat of maintenance oil.  If you have time let it cure the 7 days before you put on the maintenance oil.

Sounds about right and has been my experience. The Soft-Spoken Wood Guy also mentions using maintenance oil after applying the first coat:

Worked great for scuffing between the 2 coats.
