To take the edge out of my earlier post I would like to clarify a little about what I have heard about the "new, smaller Kapex". The dealer that spoke of it knew it was an ongoing project at Festool - this he had been told when visiting the factory and discussing tools (i.e. wants and wishes from the woodworking community) in general with Festool. He did not see any mock ups in the flesh or anything but was told that it was "in the works" but that the saw had been delayed a few months and that a European release would mot likely not be until this fall, but they hope to have it on the market this year.

I am not too keen on rumors floating around, giving false hope and such. I do have to say that so far, the info I have been given (in slight advance) on product release from Festool has been accurate.

The only time I have been given a straight NO from official Festool representatives was when there was a rumor about the C18 floating around. My dealer called Festool and talked to a representative and the rep said that the C18 was not going to happen at all - due to high risk of torque/wrist strain. It seemed like a well informed - and official - answer.

Still, barely a MONTH later the C18 was available for order!!! My take on that episode is that I trust my dealer - who orders and deals straight from Germany - more than I trust the reps from our country. When I have attended wood working fairs and visited the Festool booth I have seldom walked away with any more information than I already knew beforehand.

To close off that loop I think they throttled down the torque on the C18 to be able to release it, it has a mere 5NM more torque than the C15 and still a whopping 20NM less torque than the DRC18/4 - which has the additional handle attachment. Still, a C18 is a very welcome addition to the line up - I think.

 It does not work with "smart"-phones. Only Droid-phones. iPhones (smartphones) don't have Near-Field-Communication yet.

The KS60 (presumably the ‘smaller Kapex’ they’d heard rumours of) came out a few years after this thread started, so I don’t think anyone needs to wait until 2023.

I like the space saving quality of the 120.
This thing you would need to clear an entire room for space to cut any variety of angles on long pieces.  I don't think i wood care for that in a small shop.

If you make your Kapex work station mobile by using industrial quality castors with brakes then you can move things around when required.

Why a 10" blade. I never understood why a 10" blade it's Fcking useless. - and I have yet to buy one because a 10" just does not cut it. It is a limiting (VERY) limiting in the base functioning of this tool - rendering it essentially useless. Stop making this model and come out with a real tool with at least a 14" blade preferably 16". Capacity matters, especially when the price point, is so darn high. By the way, your 10" model is about 100% more than the 12" Bosh. Love most of your stuff but Festool needs to step up and do better on innovation and price point in the market.

The earlier model has motor problems, tsk - tsk... This should not happen if you position yourself as the market leader and top design, innovation, and quality company and then charge accordingly you had better deliver by getting the build and quilty right. I think all owners of the old model should receive a replacement new model. God knows they have already paid for it.

   
I assume this is directed to Festool as opposed to Shane. He didn't design the saw you know. Why exactly you have decided  to pop on and go on a ranting attack about a saw that you do not own, have no intention to buy, and you already have something that you like better? It doesn't sound like you have a Kapex with a bad motor? Why do you even care? It is clearly not a tool that you want. If you actually care about Festool designing a new Kapex that suits your needs, try discussing it and putting ideas forward.

Your post mostly sounds like you have an axe to grind.

And a 16" light weight, easily portable miter saw? Please.

Just drama, not serious feedback.

The commercial glazing company I work part time for pjust bought a similar 16" behemoth.  I spent the last three days helping set it up and moving the 16' Tigerstop automated stop system.  Quite the upgrade from the 12" DeWalt slider preciously used. They are in the process of installing about 250' of up to 29' high curtain wall glazing.  Are 69 I am not at all sad about not being involved in the installation.
