Laminated top for the MFT. I'd had mine stored in a closet for a few of the warmer months and it came out smelling like mildew as MDF just acts like a sponge. Melamine-clad MDF would be an upgrade over the unfaced stuff.
If you made the top with a jig system (or CNC) that would be totally possible. You could even choose your color.
What would be totally awesome is one made from something more inert, like phenolic, then it couldn't swell from humidity. But I think this would only apply to those of us who don't cut on ours. Anyone who uses it as a track saw platform, sees it as a replacement item, and would rather keep the price down.

Size L drawer systainers.  It would be nice to assemble a stack, and not have to disassemble it to get to things on the bottom.

I wish Festool made a lot less money ,

Would like to see a large combo machine.  PLaner, jointer TS with slider.  I wouldn't buy it, but I would like to see their version of it.

Why wouldn't you purchase the Festool planer, jointer, TS with slider...are you planning on fabricating one yourself?

If they made less money, how would they fund the Research & Development on a large combo planer/jointer/slider?

It probably wouldn't have Festool's name on it, in any case, because they don't really make stationary tools; they're designed for portability. It MIGHT have SawStop's name on it, if they made it.

But it also wouldn't make sense for SawStop to put out a joiner/planer since Saw is the first part of their name and, well, those tools aren't saws.

Narex wouldn't do it.

Shaper won't.

Tanos DEFINITELY won't do it.

I'm afraid you won't need to worry about not buying it, since it's not really their core business model to make something like that.

Squall_line brings up an interesting point, if all of these manufacturers made less money, how would we as consumers be able to afford anything that they produce?

Profits are the key to better products and cheaper products, remove the profits and we'll all be looking at higher product costs. Take for example my latest post on the R-R Amethyst Droptail, that's a one-off $30 million dollar vehicle because the margins aren't nearly as broad as they need to be. Some may find the word "profit" offensive, however I don't, it's just the way we need to roll to improve the breed.

However gross profit (think Amazon) may be a different matter...and that'd be a good item to discuss at a later date.

You have no idea what their profits and cost of doing business are. European companies treat employees much better US companies though some of it is government mandated (work hours, training, vacation & healthcare are three). I’ll gladly pay more to give people at all levels significantly better benefits than the majority of US employees will ever have. You can live decently doing most any job including restaurant and retail workers.

Note to self.  FOG has no room for levity.

And no, I didn't commit Festool's P&L statement to memory.

Please read these comments as the casual conversation they were intended, not a war plan.

I have paid for a lot of green stuff.  I earned the right to poke some fun as I enjoy the quality.

Plenty of room for levity on the FOG, but sarcasm doesn't come across in written form very easily.

Also, while you may have spent a lot of money on Festool products, when this was your second-ever post on the FOG, it seems odd to assume that everyone would know your intentions and tone.

Festool is owned by TTS Tooltechnic Systems AG.   They are not a public company, so how much profit they make is not known publicly.   Assuming they are very profitable because their products are expensive isn't a valid assumption.

Aside from the yearly price increases that can be annoying at times, I couldn't care less how much money Festool make. So long as they keep making quality innovative tools and provide good support that's all I care about. If they happen to make a squillion dollars along the way, more power to them, they've earnt it.

Do you mean you wish they charged less for their products?

Festool use to make shop equipment like bandsaws many, many years ago under the Festo name. Much like Makita did. At some point they decided portable power tools is where the money is at.

Maybe someday, Festool will be big enough to make large shop equipment again some day. For now they seem to be focused on two things:

1. Expanding their battery platform
2. Creating/providing a platform for job site, mobility and provide convince to smaller shops with portability innovations.

Some earlier in this thread mentioned a portable bandsaw. Mafell has one, but it’s over seven grand.

But if Festool ever brought back the CMS system, and could get the price right, could be interesting. I would consider if it had a deep resaw capacity like my Laguna.

Primary wish list:

Cordless router and planer 18v and 12v

Proper right angle drill with all the head changes 12v

125mm cordless circular saw

Cordless belt sander

Secondary:

A return and US re lease of the CMS system and the TKS 80 but with a miter track. Maybe a beefed up motor and slightly larger cutting capacity.
