I guess I'll play- last week bought a Kapex and the portable stand with extensions- this is an amazing upgrade to my 25 yr old Makita (which is still going strong, but doesn't have the capacity I need). The stand is really wonderful, and easily folds down for storage in my limited space. Thinking about a CT26 and 37mm hose... My 18 yr old Porter Cable and small hose is OK, but there is still more dust than I would like.

I personally love my Kapex but my CT is used more often. If you go the CT route my guess is that even just the lower noise level will put a smile on your face.

The RS 2E sander, with Hole Punch and MPE Sanding Pad For Sheet Abrasives (and a bunch of sheet sandpaper). Also purchased the 3.5m sleeved hose and CT Mounted Tool Holder my CT26. Today I also went to Woodcraft and purchased the Festool 500076 SYS-MFT Tabletop Systainer 1, to sit on top of my CT26 (since I can't afford the MFT/3 yet).. Now I just need a clamp and I will be set...

I personally love my Kapex but my CT is used more often. If you go the CT route my guess is that even just the lower noise level will put a smile on your face.

Interesting interaction between my Kapex and the tool-controlled PC vac - If I leave the Kapex's laser turned on, the auto shut off sometimes doesn't work on the vacuum. Minor thing, but interesting. In favor of the CT, having the ability to dial down the suction would be good for sanding. I use mostly a Rotex RO 90, but it's a little small for larger jobs. For those i have my old Bosch 6" 1370 DEVS random orbital sander, but it's A BEAST - heavy, and the dust collection isn't all that great (ok, but not great, funky little Bosch hose). Thinking about a 5" ETS EC125/3 for finish sanding... comments? The Bosch is ok for rough stuff, but I haven't been too happy with it for finer projects. The Rotex RO 90 is really nice, but a bit small for larger things...

Anything with ETS on it from Festool will give you a great finish and will also offer excellent DC.

The larger orbit ETS sanders are a good compromise if you don't have something that'll shred

I'd go for the 150 rather than the 125. No particular reason other if I go big I go big. Don't forget to check out the different pads. I use the hard pad for flattening a panel works a good as a belt sander IMO and you might like the interface pad for the 90.

I'm wanting something a bit lighter than my Bosch 6" - a 5" would be a nice compromise - hence the 125. I notice that there are a couple of versions of it - the Rotex RO 125 FEQ, the ETS EC 125/3 EQ (brushless motor), and the older ETS 125 EQ. TOO MANY CHOICES!!!! Probably leaning toward the brushless model...

You'll really like the brushless model, I have the ETS EC 150 and really like it. It's also very light weight compared to my old dewalt 5". If you haven't had the chance to, I'd suggest find a local dealer that stocks it and play around with it.

You're probably right - BOTH the ETS EC 125 and 150 sanders weigh 2.6 lbs... that's about HALF of what my 6" Bosch 1370DEVS weighs. I can use the Bosch for more heavy-duty stuff, and the Festool ETS EC 150/3 brushless for the finer sanding. I'll look into them next week...

Increased the systainer count today. Festool Australia have the PS300 Trion barrel jigsaw on special with a free set of blades. I have some work for it so decided to go for it. The positive plugs on here for the PS300 also helped.

Now to research cutting plastic with it

I had these 2 mysteriously turn up in the mail from Holland. Whats strange is that the package took quicker to travel from the other side of the world compared to a parcel from the other side of the town that were both shipped the same day. The one from the other side of town is expected to arrive Friday.

LOL, need to kit out a workshop so made use of a UK voucher, get £225 when spending £1500, i used 3, still not finished !!

But the sander has a new dust port? Anyone else seen this before? Think i got it straight from the factory.

Its a locking dustport. They sent along a new adapter for the 27mm hose(to replace the old) in the systainer aswell...

Why ?

A 1/2 sheet is also good for finishing, and better chance of remaining flat.

A 6" round sander gives a large surface to try and remain flat over - rather than smooth and wavy.
The 5-mm also works for finishing.

The perfect combo is a 1/2-sheet with 2-mm and an 6"/5-mm random orbital (plus your Bosch as a trifecta)

Doesn't matter much. Do you need a 5" or would the 6" work?

Went on a bad streak this week...bought the new CTL-SYS as well as the LR-32 set, the LR-32 95" guide rail and the Domino XL700 (plus a Systainer of each of the XL tenons).

I blame the IRS/tax code. They limit Roth IRA contributions and earlier this month I maxed out this year so I got weak and decided to go Festool. Next month will go into traditional savings account as I need to save up some money for material to actually use these tools on...
