I am cutting dados using 1400 router, FS/2 rail, and FS-OF 1400 guide stop. I'm not using clamps because I don't have any rail clamps and the clamps I do have are too tall for the rods. The rail is moving away from the cut line, i.e., the dado is wider than the bit. The further I go the wider the dado becomes. Has anyone experienced the rail moving w/o clamps? I'm pushing down on the guide stop as I route but the rail still moves. Should I invest in clamps?

Yes! The grippy strip on the back of the rail is enough to keep it in place with a track saw (cutting at 90 degrees). However, a router is putting a lot more horizontal force against the rail. It absolutely will not stay in place that way. It is also best practice to clamp the rail down during bevel cuts with a track saw too.
