Used Sys Vac
« on: February 08, 2021, 11:55 PM »
I have an opportunity to purchase a used "one time" Sys Vac 2 system. So it has pump, foot pedal, 2 sys vac units, 3 Systainers (2 for sys vac units & 1 for the pump being thrown in), along with the 3 set of extra pads in their systainer and extra hose. Is there anything that I need to be aware of before purchasing?

So no advice on anything that I need to watch out for? I didn't know if there were certain parts that might be prone to failure. But for $1200 for it all I'm just going for it.

I don’t have the Vac so I cannot comment on it but seems the entire lot is $1,300 new or $1,000 reconditioned?

yes it's $1300 but comes with an extra systainer and the 3 additional heads in its systainer. about $500 additional at no cost.

I’d be curious to know the frequency of what wears out and/or breaks. I would assume mainly the pump but maybe it’s the heads with the way Sedge slaps wood on them!!

I think I'd like to see it work, which shouldn't be unreasonable. Bring a chunk of plywood and slap it on the head and try removing it. Turn off the pump and see how long before you can pull it off. Takes a while for the vacuum to weaken enough to do that (though I do not have a time). If it comes off really quickly, there could be a leak that the running pump hides. But hoses could be replaced through Festool, though that would affect the price.

I recently bought the 2 head set from the Festool Recon site for $1100.   The only thing that would be a concern is the pump.  I don’t have any concerns with it, but if it died out of warranty, I’m sure a cheap vacuum pump could be bought to replace it. It is a very handy tool.

If it leaks, it could also be the pump only making the minimum amount of pressure to hold the panel as it leaks by the pump cylinder which would cost even more.

It seems the hoses could be tested by holding an in-scent stick next to the connections while it’s running and see if smoke is drawing in.

Well. I finally picked it up. I got everything for $1200. He told me it had only been used to test it and to check it out. There is only dust on the outside of the containers. There isn't dust on the units and no dust in the fan for the pump. Looks brand new and I guess it is. It is the old model but I really don't know the difference between the 2.

I got one from the recon and it's been running most all day, all week, for months at a time. The pump doesn't seem to get very hot, really... Good design, I suppose.

Sorry to tell you this but that was stolen from me and I'm going to need you to return it right away ... I can tell by the identifying marks which is the lack of dust!!  [tongue]

Seriously, I hope you enjoy it, it's the only Festool left I can see adding value for my DIY needs and can't wait to have one of my own.
