SOLD! UK - Festool ASA 5000 and EEA Energy Box for sale on eBay

For those in the UK...

They don't come up very often but there's a Festool ASA 5000 boom arm and Energy Box on eBay at the moment. Looks to be complete, although I'm not sure they ever came as 110V and the 230V socket on the back is definitely an end-user addition!

Could be the perfect addition to someone's workshop. It's not my listing and I have no relation to the seller whatsoever; just posting it as they're pretty rare nowadays. Also, note, there's no dust extractor included; they've mistakenly labelled the Energy Box as a Dust Extractor. I have told him so he may update the listing. I've also sent him all the manuals as he doesn't seem to know much about it. That way at least the purchaser will have all the relevant information for installation etc.

In their day, you'd have been looking at £4-5K for the Boom and Energy Box together, so £1200 and accepting offers is quite a deal in my opinion.

It’s a pretty sure thing. If the offer came via ebay, the fee is owed.  Pain and simple.   Fleabay also has an entire group to keep people from taking their business off book.  You can’t just send someone your email or phone number via a listing so you can make an offer outside ebay.

Think again. It's a simple matter to arrange an outside sale - I've be a party to just this thing several times. Use your imagination. On eBay UK, DE, ES and FR, etc., sellers' contact info (email, telephone, street/mailing address, etc.) are publicly listed. As for .com it's a simple matter to add contact info to an attached image (algorithms aren't that smart yet). Also, some sellers (who are actual retailers) have their own websites and/or some googling can produce contact info.  Where there's a will....

Umm, no it's not! "Mistake in Listing" is about the only standard way to cancel a sale without incurring any fees, or invoking a mark against either the seller of the buyer. It is exceedingly commonly used to sell via other avenues after being listed on ebay.

He could have had it advertised elsewhere for all we know.

Remember, eBay only give you a small number of options to remove a listing, and one of them isn't "I sold it via another method", so the one quoted is often the one you need to select. I've done this myself when I've sold something through a post in a specialist Facebook forum where I've also had an eBay listing for the same item.

Of course, technically, if someone only knew about the sale because of the eBay listing, then the sale should have been completed through eBay so that they get their fees etc.

Just hoping it's gone to a good home  :)

I suppose it depends on your definition of ‘owed’. According to the eBay terms and conditions they can probably charge you fees for sales they can prove were completed off site where the buyer and seller were introduced within eBay, but if they choose not to enforce that rule (presumably due to the complexities involved in evidencing a sale and identifying the buyer when the sale itself takes place outside of the site), then do you owe them anything?

EBay tries to make it difficult to sell off-site, but there are plenty of loopholes in their automated systems (such as including contact info in the photos). EBay takes the easier route of issuing automated warnings when their systems believe an off-site sale took place and then using sanctions (like temporary selling restrictions, or even bans) for prolific repeat offenders. And anecdotally, I think you have to do it A LOT before they do anything more than send warnings.

Yes it was me, I have one already I bought a while ago new from a Festool dealer in Germany with the EEA Turbo Auto (that was a very hard find!!)

I also have a 'spare' brand new EEA Energy Box Turbo Auto

I bought this for the Arm to add my spare EAA

Over the weekend I will see what has gone on  / been done with regards to the 110V conversion as its never been sold in 110V and the Control board is 220v. If it can be put back to its original spec, I will as I have a static ceiling mount for the EAA and will use it over a fixed bench.

I also have all of the parts to convert this into the EAA Auto version

To clear up the matter of how it was purchased. The seller also sells outside of eBay and Garry is correct that there is no option on eBay to end a listing if sold elsewhere, also given that I have paid eBay over 20k in fees in the last year , i couldn't care anyway...! But all sold and purchased above board!

The 700 mile  [eek] round trip to collect it shows determination on my part  [big grin]
