Rick, I tried it and there didn't seem to be any problem. However, like Rick is saying, the sticker will bridge the plastic scale and the metal housing to some extent. I can't offer any insight on how it will hold up long term however.

Shot in the dark: are there any plans or timeline for releasing a TS75req?

I would love to further improve my dust collection, but the 55 is underpowered and undersized for some of my work.

None that I'm aware of. Certainly not this year in the US/Canada even if there were plans.

I own the ts75 was planning on picking up the 55req. I watch the demonstration that was streamed live from festool connect and one thing stood out to me. the guy demonstrating mentioned that you need to have separate rails for the different saws. that's a pretty big deal for me. i do believe he mentioned something about calibrating the new saw to the old rail. is this true and how complicated is the process? I have many festools to buy and doubling up on expensive rails seems very unfestool . to me festool is about a system where parts crossover to work with one another. and going back and forth to work with the ts55 and the ts75 on your set of rails seems like one of the most obvious things that you should be able to do.

nevermind. I saw a bunch of posts about this and its doesn't seem to be an issue for people with multiple saws. seems like an easy enough adjustment. being new to festools I hadn't considered this situation, but it makes sense that you would need to calibrate it. cant wait to get the 55r

Ok. Stooopid question coming... is it just me or does the most recent TS 55 REQ pic on the Festoolusa home page look like it has a metal exterior? Is it some sort of weird lighting/editing or?

does the 55r actually have "more power"? i see people saying "more power" but amperage is still rated at 10 amps...

Um, it is metal.

That's why it looks metallic.

Edit - Just to clarify... all of the light grey bits are metal, all of the black bits are plastic.

Question about the May 1st date. Do dealers have to wait till May 1 until they start shipping or can they ship for arrival at a customer on May 1st?

If you walk into a store on May 1st, you can take it with you. If you order online, dealers ship no sooner than May 1st.

My local dealer has all their initial stock of 55 REQs pre-sold, thankfully one is sold to me

Called my NorCal Woodcraft today to see if my preheld REQ was there yet...no, not yet. So I guess you can't go in and get one on the 1st like I'd hoped. I'm told they are getting 2 and my name is on one of them.
Update...
Just got word that my saw is ready to pick up today, Friday. I'll pick it up tomorrow.

For me too in form of nice fat refund from Uncle Sam. Trouble is, THE BOSS LADY saw it first and has plans.

Is this going to end up effecting every U.S. REQ out there? I ask, only because as of yet, I haven't experienced the issue and I hate to have to send in my REQ to fix what isn't happening. Still, if I'm told that every REQ has the potential by nature of it's engineering, then I guess I'll have no choice. Guess it's all yet to be determined.

If you haven't gotten the message yet - if you have a TS-55REQ and live in North America:

"Festool has notified the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada of a potential problem with the plunge mechanism on some TS 55 REQ Plunge-Cut Track Saws. While investigation is continuing, Festool, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), intends to recall affected units. If you have a TS 55 REQ Plunge Cut Track Saw, please discontinue use immediately and call Festool directly at 1-855-784-9727."

Stop the being on the fence post, stop wondering why, stop wondering if, stop hoping for a better deal, - just pick up the darned phone and call.

I got that message and have called Festool. The end result was that my name and number were put on a contact list to be contacted when a fix had been found. That way, I would be without my REQ for the least amount of time. Honestly, that was the end result of my discussion with the Festool CS person and it seemed reasonable to both of us at the time. I'm just going by my direct contact with Festool.

I think the potential problem with a post like yours is that it might cause speculation here on the forum and Festool can't allow that. I believe Peter was trying to head that off before it got to the point of yet another locked thread.

I can appreciate that. I'm sure there are legalities at play that we are not aware of. That said, it's confusing to us who have had no problems with our REQs to date. That's why I called Festool directly and got that response.

Obviously, due to power requirements, tools for North America are manufactured in separate runs from other international tools. I don't know if this was isolated to a single production run.

If anyone thinks that their tool is not operating as intended, they should stop using it immediately and call their local Festool service department. This is not just in the care of the TS 55 REQ, but any tool.

Do you have to use the track or can this also be used like a regular circular saw (free hand)?

Is the recall the reason all the dealers are waiting for Oct. 23? All the new ones will have the fix?

You can use them without the track. In fact the REQ has a dual depth scale for on track off track use. A rip guide is also available. Personally I don't like using it off the track. The plunge and retract can be troublesome with out the track. Don't let that stop you from getting one.
