Title: Recon TSC batteries
Post by: jussi on January 21, 2021, 08:02 AM
Just ordered the TSC55 on the recon site.  It says the batteries are "2x 5.2 ASI Batteries" Are those the Airstream models or an older model?

I literally just got my Tsc55 yesterday afternoon and have it in the truck beside me and they are Airstream.

Congratulations on your purchase !

Great! Was hoping that was the case but description didn't specifically say Airstream. Thanks!

I've the TS55 and wonder why you'd want cordless version unless the dust collection is as good or perhaps the motor is stronger?

You can get the bag for either TS55 or TSC55. Festool has stated the motor is the same power. It's a convenience thing. My TS55 is stuck in the shop whereas the TSC55 I could take with me to break down plywood at the supplier and put it in my vehicle for transport. It hasn't been an issue yet: my wife's van takes full 4x8 sheets with the seats down and the door closes and my supplier delivers to my house next day for about $15. Doesn't mean I don't want the TSC55 to skip cords when I'm breaking down sheets in the garage before moving them to the basement.

When I did my office I often found myself hauling my TS55 back and forth because I had materials spread across the garage and basement shop. It'd be easier to have the TSC55 and parallel guides parked in the garage but I'm not there yet. Some day.

With new blades on both, my cordless feels like it has more power than my 10 year old ts55. Festool says the same. The new ts55R may be stronger than the standard ts55 or it could be a fluke.

I haven't used my corded 55 since I bought the TSC.

My tools are all down in the basement and I had my son help me haul 10 sheets of 3/4" Maple down here but he's since moved out and that was a real pain so I imagine I'll be leaving it in the garage in the future and doing what you do.  That said, I don't even like having to haul the CT 36 up there if I don't have to so cordless could be nice for this purpose if the dust collection is decent...

Like rst, I also have not used the TS 55 since I purchased the TSC 55.

The portability is fantastic and the dust bag works well. The only downside is it needs to be emptied often.

The TSC 55 that I bought on festoolrecon.com arrived yesterday, but I haven't gotten a chance to try it out yet.  Sedge said on the TS 55 vs TSC 55 Festool Live, that the TSC 55 captures 90% of the dust: https://youtu.be/9XqnIdNwVqE?t=344.

Just wondering, if one have a TS55 why would you buy another one, identical with battery? Why not buy a HKC, that would cut with the same quality (given that you off course use the same blade on both) And then have a second saw that would handle nearly all the mobile work, including cutting with a FSK rail, non rail cutting and regular rail cutting.

Just curious, and that from a guy who happens to buy double of the things I really like..  [big grin] [scared]

Why would you assume that I don't own an HKC...I've just been too busy to sell my corded 55.  Have a 75 also as sometimes the 55s just don't have enough depth.

I have the HKC too, I bought the TSC with plans to sell the TS55 and get the TS75. On a separate note, the HKC isn’t as strong as it should be to be a construction saw.

I use my HKC for more refined construction...stairs, decks things that would normally require a chopsaw or slider.  I have an 8 1/4" Skilsaw or a 10" Milwaukee for brute work.
