OF2200 no longer listed on festoolusa.com?
« on: June 21, 2022, 08:37 PM »
Apologies if this is the wrong forum.

I noticed that the 2200 is no longer listed as a product in the “Routing” category on the website. I was considering purchasing one but this gave me pause, in case there is some planned refresh/update on the horizon.

Likely supply chain issues combined with a changeover from TLoc to Sys3 systainer.  They're not going to discontinue that beast...

I noticed that earlier today on Slack when the 2200 was listed on Recon but showed as questionable. I'll have to check and see if it's available on other Festool international sites.

The reason it gets flagged as questionable is because it populates in the search window when you search for it but redirects to the general routing page when you follow the link.

Maybe there's a new revision yet to be announced?

"Not Available" at Lee Valley Canada.

I wonder if they are in the middle of a design change, like they did on the OF 1010 ?

I seriously doubt it. Unlike the quirks they've fixed on the 1010, it's actually hard to imagine how the 2200 could be improved in any way. That router is a work of art. Festool seem to have a long-running propensity for making products available in NA last of all. I'm with @squall_line on this - it's likely all about the changeover to the Sys3, along with redesigning, retooling, manufacturing, and taking delivery of the new case inserts. Time will tell if I'm wrong.

Edit - I just checked the UK website, and the 110-volt version is available over here, too.

Maybe they're negotiating with the shipping companies who have to offset the fact that diesel in the UK is now over 11 US dollars a gallon ...... [scared] Even the most fuel-efficient European 44-ton semis only manage 7-8mpg - just imagine how much the 59,000-horsepower 2-stroke MAN diesel engines on a typical container ship use .....

Interesting...I don't remember Festool doing this to the TS 75 when it was unavailable.

If it is really changing to the new SYS3, then maybe the SKU# is changing too?

Almost always does.  From all of the research @4nthony has done on the Recon alerts, sometimes the only difference between a "current model" and a "no longer available model" is that the old one is in a T-Loc, but they always have a different SKU.

The new OF 2200 number is 576223. The Tool Nut & other places have it listed for preorder.

I see the new photo shows it with a plug-it power cord but does not mention it at all.

If you look close at the picture, it also shows the cord coming out of the top of the router. I did see a picture on one site that showed the regular cord with the systainer 3.

Where? The cord is captive, just like it always was. That green connector looks like a standard European-style 2-pin plug to me - especially since it’s on the wrong end of the cord. Maybe I’m wrong, but I always thought that a 2200 drew more current than a Plug-it could handle, hence the captive heavy-gauge cord.

For those who are looking at images and wondering if they have seen the next generation super xxxx in camouflage,  and are looking to announce the news scoop of the century - I offer that Festool supplies stock images for dealers and others to use, and the images are not always reliable for different markets not not necessarily the tools.

Carry on...

Fair point @Peter Halle - the picture I screenshotted above of the 2200 with the Sys3 was from the Festool UK website, so I figured it was current and accurate.

Am I mistaken, but I thought gloves while using power tools was not a great mix?

I have always been against it, but some guys like them? From the research we did a few years ago, OSHA has no official position on it. IMHO, it should absolutely be a no-no with a SawStop. It would be a barrier to the tech that could save you. If the blade would catch the glove, you are had, long before it could react....and what happens when the blade drops and you are stuck to it?
