Mounting an Accessory to the Front of a CT 26/36/48
« on: June 21, 2022, 12:12 AM »
I have an idea for an accessory and would like to mount it to the front with screws or bolts. There are two holes on either side of the port that look ideal. I seem to recall that they are used for a NAINA accessory. Does anybody know the specifications for the fastener that would go into these holes? I'm guessing they are similar in style to the type that are used to mount the cord wrap.

On my CTL26 (manufacture date 2018) these two holes are just that. No thread in the plastic. There is a metal plate behind the plastic and some space between the plastic and the metal. There are no holes in the metal. An M5 machine screw will fit with some play. An M6 won't fit without drilling or tapping.

I tried to capture what it looks like in a photo for you, see below.

Were I to attach anything, I would use the "bottom" reinforcing plate - the space left and right to the "stand" lock.

That way you would not penetrate the vacuum chamber and the bottom is also pretty stiff as it has re-inforcing ribs. You can also put "backing" plastic washers from behind to spread the load etc.

Also, the hose connection is pretty strong on itself and can be very stiff when pushed in. Relying just on that may not be such a bad idea ... Not sure if you have a CT on hand, but the bag can be removed with the hose plugged, so there is no issue having something press-fit in the standard hose hole on a permanent basis.

Those holes are for no accessory anymore even in Europe. For sure, they were not for any fixture given these are just punched holes through the plastic with no reinforcement. The metal plates behind are grounded electrical contacts so they may have been (planned)
for some accessory that would provide the electrical ground from the CT with the holes needed to reach the contacts. May hvae been useful when Festool was shooting for the Car workshop market. They are definitely not meant for any mechanical fixture.
When The Machine has no brains, use yours.

Aren't they there for part of the wet-vac functionality?

I am curious about the accessory? What is it?
