MFK 700 Set contents

I went through the old posts and I saw where someone said the edge guide is no longer included.  That post was in 2019.  I picked one up Saturday that was lost in the dealership and then found.  Its date was 2018 and when I got home, noticed the edge guide (and rods were not in it).  There is a space for it and its in the picture on the systainer lid showing it there.  Since this tool was dated 2018, could it have been there but someone took it out?

Should it be there or not ?

Seems in Europe, there’s two “Plus” versions.

Thanks for that.  I do have the EQ-Plus.  I have everything in that picture except for the edge guide.

Just heard back from my dealer.  He is pretty adamant the edge guide does not come with my set...

Mine didn't come with an edge guide in the USA. I went through the same thing, searching to find out of it should have come with the edge guide.

BTW putting your country of residence helps others when you ask questions.

I am pretty sure the MFK does not and never did include the edge guide in the USA.  Mine is older than 2018 and it did not have the guide.

Also, you can't go by what is pictured on the lid insert. Those often include many items that are not included. It is more of a 'here are things you can get' and 'here is where they fit' guide.

Just curious what others need or want the edge guide for?  For me the MFK is used with the horizontal baseonly trimming edge banding. Without the horizonal base isnt it just like any ol' router?  Ive never used or even plan to use the vertical base unless Im missing something.

Thats a good point.  Thats mostly what I want it for as well.  I have seen others use it to route the back panel dado but I already do that on my router table and that seems to be less chance for error, at least for me.  I don't need the edge guide but would play with it if I had one.

When I bought my MFK 700 back in 2010, it did come with the edge guide.  I rarely need it, but it's really good when edge-trimming long pieces, like countertops.  Using the edge guide with the vertical base is far easier when I need to reposition myself several times during a straight run, and am likely to make the router wobble by moving while routing.  I added the zero-degree base (with the blue tape in the photo).   [smile]

Thanks Willy.  I noticed I am missing a piece that you have.  To the right of your zero degree base, past the collet, you have a knob with a green adjuster (?) on it.  Do you know what that is and its number?

Mine did not have that green knob thing either so Im betting it has something to do with the edge guide.  Its also interesting the height knobs have some mm markings on them as well mine just have + & -  but im in the US. I wish they sold the MFK with just the Horz. base as thats what I would have bought.  Im the type that doesnt switch bits in my routers.  I will buy a router for specific tasks set them up once and thats it.  But most of my routers cost 100-150 not 600 the MFK is the exception because its so specialized. I ordered a 8mm collet for my dewalt trim router so I can run the festool 1mm roundover in it.  I trim the excess off with the MFK and hit the round over with a different router.  If I had to switch setups every time between the 2 I would hate it but Im not spending another 600 for another MFK.  They should sell the motors separately (max $300) so a person could have both the Horz and vert. set up without going completely broke. I already have the rest of the parts sitting in a systainer going to waste. Does anyone know if you can order just a motor unit from the parts dept. and cost if so?

I just checked parts and each part is sold separately. I was hoping they had a part # for a complete motor but by the time you add each and every part up its going to be more than its worth. Seems like another oversite for Festool Im sure they could sell some more units bare to folks like me. Its kind of annoying have all that kit going to waste.

That part is the fine adjuster used with the edge guide.  It comes as part of the kit.  I'm sure that you can find the part number for the adjuster on EKAT, but it's useless without the remainder of the kit.   [smile]
