Festool Rotex RO150 E-Plus on eBay - Questionable
« on: February 07, 2007, 09:23 PM »
Hi there,

First, please accept my apologies in advance if this is from anyone on here and it's a legitimate auction. I've wondered whether I should post this or not, but I figured I would feel worse if someone's stolen sander was sold on eBay and I didn't do anything about it.

There's a RO150 E-Plus on eBay right now and a few things about it are making me suspicious. First, the seller had a Buy It Now price of $300 and opening bid of $250. Second, it's brand spanking new since it was "plugged in for testing only". Third, the seller is only accepting a money order/cashiers' check.

Lastly, when I asked the seller to provide a receipt, he said that he lost it. I then asked if he could tell me where he bought it (since they can often reprint the receipts if they use a computer) and received no reply whatsoever.

Anyway, if you're missing a sander and you're in Rowland Heights, California, you might want to look on eBay.

Like I said, I apologize if this is a legitimate auction (esp. by a FOG member), but I would sure like to know if something of mine was up for sale without my knowledge. :)

I saw it as well and wondered why it was so cheap. The sellers other listings lead me to believe he isn't a woodworker and I wonder how he ended up with it.

Really, when you consider the price of the RO-150 as part of a package with a CT-22 you wouldn't be saving much anyhow IMO

I was listing some stuff on Craigslist recently when I read an ad for a cheap Bosch jigsaw in my neighbourhood so I called the seller and we set a time up. I walked into his apartment and it looked like a pawn shop. I didn't buy the jigsaw and he called me on my cell phone afterwards in disbelief asking me how I could pass it up for such a cheap price. I notified the police about the little pawn shop and thank my lucky stars no one has ever been in my shop.

Even when I sell tools on Craigslist I won't let them in my shop as it is a perfect way for criminals to check out your tools and scope out possible ways into your haven

His buy it now price of $300. plus $25 shipping is only $25 less than the closeout price in the '06 catalog. So unless it sells for significantly less than $300, I wouldn't say that it's a great deal. Especially if it has a questionable past.

I bought a similar unit on eBay in August. Paid $260 for a near new tool from a Festool isa. He said he'd turned it on a few times for demonstrations. Barely used. I thought the price was a good deal since I avoided the 8% california sales tax.

Besides the tool, the seller was a wealth of information relating to festool equipment. Luck of the draw, I guess.

I finally got a reply from the seller. It's at on the computer at home, but it was something like "the place where I bought it is closed." It could be a problem with his English since the email address was very Asian sounding, but I somehow doubt the seller even knows what a Guide Rail is.
