Hey All,

Been in the market for quite awhile for a Kapex. Found someone local selling a barely used Kapex EB with the full Undermount/Wing Extension assembly (UG-KA) for $1700. I have no need for it mount/wings and so I'm trying to gauge resell value to see what I can recoup on the cost by selling that and just keeping the Kapex?

My condundrum is...if I can't recoup a decent amount selling the Wing Extension/Roller Cart...then that leaves me close to the $1500 selling point anyway for a brand new REB anyway...so I may as well just get a new one.

Any thoughts on what a used (very good condition) UG-KA would go for? I'm not worried about shipping it, have a good discount on shipping and I ship big items all the time.  I tried to search in the classified but only found combos. I know alone it's around $950 but Festool discounted when sold as a combo...so not sure what the percieved value is....

I bought a 2009 vintage Kapex with UG cart and wings about 5 years ago and paid $1,600. it was in good shape and has served me well with no issues whatsoever.  In the intervening time as Alex notes the original Kapex has revealed a potentially serious problem but one that seems to affect a small percentage of saws.  I think that issue should at least position you to argue for a lower price than I paid.  If it were me I wouldn't go above $1,200 for the combo, holding back the potential cost of a motor repair.  I'd also keep the UG cart and wings, for me it's what makes the Kapex uniquely capable.

I could be wrong but as I understand the US version of the Kapex uses a different braking function. I know some theories were that the motors burned out due to thinner extension cords or plugging into the vac outlet but I wonder if it’s not this “electromagnetic” braking the US version implemented.

Thanks all! He claims (and photos do indicate unless he literally scrubbed every square inch) that it's barely used. He collected Festool but has since lost his job. He also has a 60 and 80 tooth Oshlun blades for it as well. I mentioned 1700 as the price...that was talking him down from 1800...he wouldn't budge and said he was not in a hurry to sell and that it would sell...citing that he sees lots of beaten contractor kapex's being sold at almost of of life for quite a price.

I do think he's correct traditionally...but with the new model out he doesn't seem to understand the value drop.

All in all - i seem confident that if i bought it...i'd be buying a well taken care of saw but i'm just now sure the used value is there when I could get new one. The saw would sit in my woodshop in a built in miter station...so again...no need for the cart. Not sure how much used Oshlun blades go for but could sell those as well I supposed.
