Festool Domino Connectors guide?
« on: November 17, 2022, 08:05 PM »
Is there a manual or website that outlines all the current Domino connectors including those compatible with the DF 500?

I found a general Domino user manual but it doesn't have the newer connectors. The type of info I'm assuming would be in this manual would be explanations of the differences between KV D8/50 and KV-LR32, when to use which connectors, etc.

I have a .pdf document that's very helpful, unfortunately I can't attach it to this post for some reason.  [sad]

The little guide that comes with the kit/set shows the way to use each one, pictorially.

The Festool Live episodes are pretty instructive.

There WAS a physical copy of a guide, but I don't know if it exists in PDF version on Festool's website or other websites.  @Cheese probably has a copy of it.

Here's the little guide squall_line is talking about and the one I referred to earlier.

Thank you both that is exactly what I was looking for.

I'll hopefully get around to watching the videos but wanted something quick to reference at first.

What I appreciate about the little pocket guide (which is sitting on my kitchen table, ironically), is that it shows the plunge depth settings and everything.  Glad it works for you!

I found a general Domino user manual but it doesn't have the newer connectors.

Have you seen this?

https://online.flippingbook.com/view/778770/

In the section Practical application examples, there are various connector joint examples (mixed in with loose tenon joints), and it looks like it covers both the 500 and 700.

I'm not all that familiar with the connector system so I don't know if it has all the latest connectors.

Maybe it'll be helpful, or at the very least, fill in a knowledge gap or two. Good luck!

I found the PDF version of that book (and I think it's the same as the physical book that Cheese talks about having walked off from his local store a number of years ago), but it only covers the 700 connectors.

The theory for the 500 is somewhat similar, but the application is different, not only because there's a 15mm hole required for the 500 connectors, but also because they're mostly for sheet goods.

The 500 connectors have been around long enough to have been in a classic Systainer at one point, but they were a follow-on after the original 700 connectors came to be.

Yes @squall_line, that is the PDF version of the hard cover book that was at Woodcraft. It came out shortly after the introduction of the XL 700 connectors in 2017 and was really the first hands-on publication to look at. There was never any information in the hard cover book about the DF 500 D8/50 connectors because they weren't released until 2019.

@4nthony I think I had seen that PDF too, or my DF500 may have come with a physical copy.

It's a little surprising they don't have a more comprehensive and updated book on the connectors specifically. I guess if you're using them professionally you'd just get the systainer set to experiment with the different options.
