CT MIDI HEPA Dust Extractor and RO 125 FEQ Rotex Sander
« on: November 23, 2018, 03:04 PM »
I just purchased both of these and am waiting for them to be shipped. I am new to Festool and am wondering if there is anything else I need to purchase to hook up the sander to the dust extractor such as hose adapters. Also will I be able to hook the dust extractor to my makita sanders, power hand planer as well as my Cutech 8" jointer. I have a Grizzly Thickness planer with its own dust collection that seems to work pretty well so I wont be using that with the
Festool dust collector. I purchased the CT MIDI HEPA Dust Extractor mainly for sanding. I make dining tables and kitchen islands and bars. Mostly flat work right from rough sawn stock so I create a lot of sanding dust. I sure hope the Rotex is worth the money. This is by far the most i have ever spent on tools at one time.

This is a great combo, the only extra you will need will be sand paper.  I would also recommend getting the Festool 492271 5 Inch StickFix Interface Pad.  Note that you can buy 10 pc packs of sandpaper from bobmarinosbesttools.com, Bob's a great source of tools and supplies as well as Fetoolproducts.com.

Thank you very much!. I have plenty of sandpaper from klingspor' thru 1500 grit and Abranet from 1000 to 4000. I assume i can use those. When that all runs out I will switch if I think I need to. I also purchased this set. I figure if my other tools dont work with the Festool dust extractor, I can use these with my 10 gal shop vac

Hi,

  Welcome to the forum!  [smile]

You will not want to run the power plane with the Midi regardless of the connection. It will fill the bag in about 30 seconds with planer shavings. The 10 gal vac will be the better option for that.

As far as connecting to your other tools it will most likely need an adapter or maybe just some tape. It will just depend on the port on the tools.

Thank you Seth. I kind of figured that about the hand power planer. Luckily I dont use it that much. The other tools are the reason I bought that set from Rockler. It had great reviews and said it would work with about any hand tool plus the price was hard to beat for black friday. I figured for 20 bucks it would be nice to have around just in case.

I am excited to get my Festool order. I work in my garage and my wife is about to kill me. Everything is covered in layers of sanding dust plus I dont know how well my respirator is actually working. I have a custom order I am starting for a  8' Hickory dining table and anxious to use the Festool stuff. This all started as making a table for my wife and kind of ballooned into an ETSY store and wouldnt you know I am actually getting orders. LOL Not what I envisioned for retirement but turns out I love it.  Tony

Sounds like this will be the first of many Festool sanders ;)
I think you'll be quite pleased with the level of dust extraction.

You'll be able to use the Abranet for sure but Festool is pretty obnoxious with their custom hole patterns so I doubt the Klingspor will fit.
