CMS VL mounting options
« on: June 26, 2020, 01:24 AM »
In debating getting a cms vl but had a few questions.

Do you have to mount it to the side of an mft or can you attach it lengthwise? My mft sits along a wall and when I do want to rout things it is usually on long peices.  So if I could only attach the cms vl to a side, I'd need to move the mft away from the wall. If I could attach it to the front I could always leave my table alone.

Does the cms vl share the same extrusion profile as the mft? If yes, can you attach an mw1000 extension table to the cms vl as an indeed or outfeed table?

Thanks in advance.

Yes on all counts.

Same profile everywhere, the V-groove, and you can attach all those parts together how you want.

That's a good idea to use the MW1000 extension as an outfeed, I hadn't thought of that.

I do use my CMS-VL attached to the long side of my MFT and it works great.  It allows me to make an 'L' with two MFT's and the CMS-VL.  When the VL was at the end I had to keep removing it when I needed to clamp full sheets of ply for ripping.  Plus, wouldn't want to cut into the aluminum.
Now I can just leave it attached to the side - less setup and farting around.

Quick follow up question. Does the MW1000 extension table attach to the back of the CMS GE as well? I've got an Incra LS positioner mounted to a precision plate. I'm wondering if I could attach the extension table and use my LS positioner with the stand alone GE.

The CMS GE doesn’t have the bottom T-track profile, it only has the V profile.
And the MW1000 table depends on the same height of the profile as MFT/3, CMS VL and all other that shares this extrusion.

So, it will hang on the CMS GE, but it will not lock and therefore it’s not stable unless you make some kind of modifications to hold the table in place. (On the plastic connector on the MW1000 table there’s a lip that catches at the lowest/underside part of the extrusion that the MFT/3 and alike has.
