Title: Maiden voyage of (my) TPC Quadrive
Post by: FestitaMakool on July 11, 2022, 05:10 PM
Ha! Today I conquered the fact that the drills that is at hand (outside a box/systainer) is the ones being used, @Cheese  [wink].

My all new TPC was sitting in the dark (Systainer…) until today when I needed to drill a 3 3/8 (86mm) hole for an instrument. That meant drilling in gelcoat/glass fiber.. with a cheap sawtooth hole saw. What was the least! I wanted was to crack/damage the gelcoat. Therefore I needed to drill slow and controllable. Its the time i usually bring my corded Metabo and use with a set speed.

I figured I’d use the TPC instead. - Worked perfectly, very nice clean hole, and I “locked” my fingers on a slow speed on the trigger and let the drill chew the hole (Made a scoring in reverse first). Being a very tight fit, i had slight adjustments to do with either a file, or again use the TPC gently with the hole saw. Again slow speed with the electronic clutch set to 2 - IF the saw would catch an edge. Needless to say, again very pleased with how the drill worked.  [smile]

A fine work drill? Absolutely!

And of course some polishing before permanent mounting of the instrument..

Brave!  [wink]
Nice clean work, as usual. I think you've talked me into one.
Is that a different chuck than the one that comes with?

Not brave, just a calculated plunge  [big grin]

It’s and old chuck from an old 12V NiCad drill.. I like it because of it’s plastic sleeve - not the file-like metal one which grinds anything it comes close to..
- Also, when needed, the chuck that comes with CXS/TXS has a lot narrower diameter when space isn’t there too.  [smile]

Next is to fit a Carling switch - with a multitool. Not much to go on on that switch body, for those who know.
