Kapex 120, did you know that it.....
« on: August 06, 2015, 05:44 AM »
Hi guys. I am knew here but have been a Festool nut for years. My old Bosch compound mitre saw was very old, needed replacement and I thought I might share the things I found out about the Kapex so I did a review on it. Have a look if you want to. Hope you enjoy it.

Spare parts from a table saw supplier. They are the cursor off a rip fence.

Hi Dave, I saw this video a few days ago on my phone when it showed up in the recommended for me videos.
Nice review, but there's a thing that bothered me a bit... the zero/ninety degree cutting position on the bevel isn't meant to be a detent but a stop. (It made me cringe a bit when you kept slamming through it  [wink])

There's a green turn dial under the lever where you can change the range for the bevel (standard is 45 to 0; then there's 45 to 45 to bevel to the right, and another if you need to bevel further than 45).

There's also an excellent supplemental owner's manual for the kapex, written by Rick Christopherson for festoolusa; it's a nice read and has very well illustrated procedures for calibrating the saw etc. Link

Hahaha, you have me there. All of the kapex's I have used allow me to push through and never appear to be worse for wear. I know the 3 position dial you refer to.... maybe I should give it a go?  [blink]

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. I might hang around and bug you with more reviews further down the track. Come to think of it, I may even post one about my rotex now.

Hi Dave,
Nice review. Keep em coming, always something new one can pickup or I'm my case likely a forgotten feature.
I've seen some of your video clips elsewhere, and I have to say, I am mighty impressed and a bit jealous with your shop set up. So organised!
Don't wake me, I'm livin' the dream!

I have noticed that if the locking dial for the Kapex is not fully engaged it will allow me to move the plumb angel with ease past 90 degrees. I will endeavor to make sure I do not force it as you suggested.

Frank

I noticed mine bumps through the zero point now even though the green knob is set to 0-45.

I'm sure it never did that when I bought it 2 years ago and I hardly use the kapex as I've got a makita for everyday use.

Mine is from 2008, but I have always moved it gently towards the 0 degree position (almost always with the  turnknob), so I don't know if I can bump past it on mine.

Here is a short video I did on a way of increasing the depth of cut from 88 up to 98 mm when you need that little bit more. Doubles as a zero clearance fence as well.
