FESTOOL RS 2E
« on: January 28, 2020, 11:05 PM »
Got this sander yesterday...boy I wish I would have gotten it sooner.  What a beast!! Half sheet size cuts the time in half for me and the ability to make my own sand sheets and to use 40 grit and up makes flattening a breeze!

Agreed! It can cover some serious ground. I bought mine used and very reasonably. He just wasn’t using it, he had so many others. I too, have quite a few so I don’t use it all the time but when the right application comes along it is a beast.

Yes, I definitely agree.  For sure my favorite FESTOOL sander of the three that I have.  I mainly build 8’-10’ tall doors and 3’-5’ wide, so lots of real estate to sand.  With this beast it’s cutting my sanding time in half.  GAME CHANGER.

Flattened this white oak door in no time with the RS 2E...did three doors just like this one in probably 1/3 of the time it would have taken me with the ROTEX 125.

Unbelievable, I don't have the RS2E and that's probably because it looks so outdated and it's ancient design-ish look.
But this post clearly states otherwise...

I have this sander and like it a lot for flattening face frames.  One downside to be aware of though, is no plug-it cord.  I got around it by installing a plug-it pigtail that I sourced from the U.K.

Thank you @Jim Kirkpatrick I think my wishlist has grown a little longer  [big grin]
I'm familiar with the plug-it pigtail conversion (which is available here in the Netherlands) I have used this to my satisfaction on the BS105

I actually prefer the power plug on the RS 2E...no worrying about making sure the cord is turned all the way on, etc.

But not needed here in Holland as we have the updated RS200 with Plug-It cord.

Sander works the same...the no plug it cord is not an issue at all for me.  Have never had an issue with any of my tools power cord.

Interesting Alex, I never knew they offered a separate dust bag for the RS 2.

Those considering this sander should keep in mind that it still has a very small sanding stroke for it's size (2.5mm/3/32").  So while it might have a speed advantage over the 125, it definitely still lags well behind the 150s.  That said, for large panel work it is fantastic for keeping everything flat and leaves no dishing that you sometimes get on the edges using the round ROS sanders.

While it is considered a “fine finish” type sander, with some aggressive sandpaper it can do some leveling.  For tabletops and doors, I’ll take this over my RO150 ANYDAY.

I love it for large flat surfaces. I added the Plug-It conversion kit, but that isn't a show-stopper at all. I also often use it upside-down in a vice for sanding small items quickly.
