5 Reasons Why I love owning the Kapex 120 Extensions

I bought the Extensions (trimming attachments) for my Kapex 120 REB a few months ago, and they have really transformed how I process my projects. I've compiled 5 Reasons why I love owning them in a video on my YouTube channel.

Ben, How sturdy are these?  I often cut rough lumber on my chop saw, which might be another 9’ of 8/4 12” sticking off the side.  Would you worry about having 50+ Lbs supported on the legs?

@cpw the extensions are pretty stout and could easily beat that weight. I weigh 220lbs and just one could hold my weight (although I wouldn’t want to test it by jumping on it)!!! Now, I would be concerned about the kapex stock locking bar holding that much weight, I’ve not tested a heavy price and it’s ability to hold down a significant amount of weight, I imagine a quick clamp could help mitigate any risks there.

Ben. Like a lot users out there who bought the Festool promo offer, I just took delivery of my Kapex and UG cart combo a few days ago. I have barely had a chance to really play with the kit aside from unpacking and setting it all up. To a point in your video, with my extension wings the initial test cut I made using the flag stop was not accurate in length. Like I said, I’ve barely used it but I’m assuming with a little calibration I can dial that in. Am I correct in assuming this?

I’ve been watching your videos since you launched your channel. Keep em coming.

I just picked up my set Friday. I played around with the calibration of the extensions. Mine definitely didn’t come calibrated. I’m still not satisfied with my calibration so I ordered a 600mm and 900mm metric woodpecker ruler that will help with the calibration. Not necessary, but I needed a metric ruler since that’s what I’ll be using to build some kitchen cabinets...

This seems like one item that is sad you need to have both a metric and an imperial version; instead of having a dual scale like the Sawstop fence.

I do most of my work in Imperial units but when I'm cutting on my Kapex with UG I keep a calculator nearby with 25.4 set in the memory.  It's an exact conversion so I just multiply my inch dimension by 25.4 and set the UG scales to mm...I've never had a miscut.

@Joebuck, thanks for watching! Just so happens that I just finished filming a calibration video tonight and will be releasing it tomorrow. The extensions coming out of calibration does happen, especially when being moved around a bit - I imagine many people that ordered theirs through shipping will have some calibration issues (I picked up mine off a shelf at Woodcraft). As long as your a subscriber, and have notifications turned on, tomorrows video should help you calibrate!! It's a really quick process!

@manuc, sucks that yours didn't come calibrated - hopefully someone at Festool is reading these comments, and fixes any issues prior to shipping (I realize I may have been lucky in this regard). A hardstand ruler will certainly make your calibrations quick and accurate - not a bad idea, although an accurately cut scrap does the trick too if in a bind.

If anyone wants to see how much weight the extensions can hold - I put out a short video on my Instagram channel with me standing on them (227lbs)!! They held me just fine!

I watched your Instagram, that's a pretty great demonstration, very solid.  At the time I bought my miter saw about 5 years ago, I decided against the Kapex because it couldn't do 5 1/2" baseboard for my house upright after my experience with my previous saw I didn't trust cutting the angles flat.  I got the Dewalt 12" slider instead, which is a good saw; but whenever I have to lug it on the stand into the bed of my truck, I wish I had a lighter saw.  If I understood at the time how accurate the Kapex bevel setting was, I think I might have chosen differently.

I normally cut miters with the stock held up right against the fence. But in two projects the stock was too tall and I had to cut them as a bevel. Dead-on miters there. The bevel control is much smoother than setting the miter on the turntable.

Live and learn!! I'm definitely a fan of how lightweight the Kapex and extensions are - super mobile set.

It seems like it would. The TKS uses the same v-groove siding, as long as the surface height is 900mm, I think it should work just fine. No TKS80s here in the US  :'( would love to test that out otherwise

I asked a sales rep from the official Festool dealer in my country and it was tested in person by the rep, confirming that it fits!
